Default Filled up, but not really ?

Today I filled up my tank. I had about 3 bars left. While I was filling the tank I hopped in the car and apparently turned my key to acc or on (didn't start the car) for some reason. When I was done pumping gas I got in the car, started it up and reset my trip like I always do. I drove down the road a bit and notice my fuel gauge was only reading 3/4 full ! I looked at my receive to make sure I did actually fill up (verifying I wasn't crazy). I didn't see anything on this forum while I was trying to search on my phone while driving (not safe, I know) but I saw other complaints about this saying that if the key is in the on position while filling up this will happen. This seems very odd to me. From what I read I have to disconnect the negative from the battery or wait until I can put approx. 2 gallons of gas in the car to resolve the reading. Is that true or is there an issue I should call the dealer about ?

Just take your key with you the next time you refuel. That's it.

I normally do. I don't know why I put it in when I got back in the car to do something on my phone. That still doesn't take away from the fact that inserting the key and having it in the on position doesn't allow the gauge to read correctly.

The gauge doesn't show the raw sender reading. That's why it doesn't fluctuate when you go over bumps or climb hills. The computer isn't expecting fuel to be added while the ignition is on. Nothing is wrong with your car.

Wouldn't you think it would read the fuel level at each start?

No. If it did, starting on a hill would throw off your reading.

Had this same experience. Left the key in for my buddy while I filled up. heard it stop and drove away realizing it was only 3/4 full.

I'll try to put some more gas in tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

I can promise you it will. Leave the ignition off while refueling or goofy stuff happens with the gauge.

Leave the key in, take the key out.....doesn't matter. It still happens on occasion. Been doing this since 2012 and it happened to me again last Thursday with the key out.

Crazy, happened to me twice, both times I had the key to "on" so I just make sure it is off

There was a TSB or there's something in the manual, or supplemental manual about this. It specifically says this will, or will likely, happen if you do like you did, and leave the key in.

Can't be as much "personality" as a Land/Range Rover has!

Just to update: I never did add more gas, but once the level dropped to/below the 3/4 mark it continued to read and drop as normal.
