my ATF level is over 3/4 of an inches above the hot full marker on the dipstick when car is warm. is this ok?

There ya go. The car needs to be running so the pump can fill the tq converter and all the other mysterious gizmos in a 4EAT. Typically the level will be 3/4" to 1" over the fill line with the car off (In my experience)

The owners manual had the procedure to chk the level. If my memory servers me it should be with Engine running in "park" and up to normal temp.

^ I just looked at it earlier today. In addition to being up to temp, it said shift through all the gears first, then leave it in park, let it idle for a minute or two, and then give her a check.
