Count me in for $100. But I would need a double din version.

A double DIN version will not work due to the lack of space the design has.

I was about to say the same thing... Dave built this so that the mini wouldn't be sticking out the top like the pros was in the video. The full in dash look is so slick

This is a pretty cool idea honestly. I too hate all the double din stereos... they look so old and outdated as the OP said. At least the iPad and the mini both have HD screens, bluetooth, and wifi/3g connectivity. There's a lot of cool things you could do.

I'm not a big fan of iOS but this design is really sleek. I'd much rather have something similar that worked for the Nexus 7

Looks like Soundwaves of Tampa did something very similar to what I'm doing.

Count me in. Though I am still trying to look up ideas for the full size ipad. I think I would rather the full size so I can have the it for normal use and in the car I would rather just amplify the ipad than have another deck.

I'm in the baby stages of my research but this is an amazing set up and great work on your part. Love it and can't wait to see the final product.

Update:

DONE! And it's AWESOME! lol Better finished photos to come later.

I ended up using the lightning cable rather than that 90 cable I got in a dock. This seems much strong and it just fits.

The most time consuming and frustrating part for me was the body work. Still not where I'd like it to be on the inside of the pan, but in the car you can hardly tell. Painting was a pain as well, lot of drying time. I messed up on the right side because I was too heavy on the spray can and the pant built up. So, had to sand it down, re primer and paint it. I did put a gloss clear coat on it. It is a bit glossy than the rest of the interior, but I don't mind. Mainly because I don't want to redo it lol. Looked into getting some suede in there, but the iPad won't fit because the fabric adds a little to the holder. I think it's fine without it, doesn't rattle or scratch the iPad. This looks a lot better in person.

Eh not bad for a first timer be proud. Not the biggest fan of the lower right portion but im sure that does make it easier to lift out on removal.

This looks amazing. Great idea. Something else you could use a seagate goflex satellite ( it is a wireless hard drive 500gb that works with almost anything and is flawless on apple products) and store any music and or videos on it. I have one that I modded to have a 2.5 harddrive with my pioneer 2400bt works great but I would much rather have a set up like this

Well, it's been a few days since I got this project done and installed and all I can say it that I absolutely love it!!! I've been using "Waze" for my navigation so far. I'm looking for an app that I can import a specific route that I created because I like to take the windy roads There is one app called "Galileo" that can import KML data from a map/route you created from google maps, but there is no voice guidance or any real navigation rather just a line on a map. For an app to play the music off my iPad, I found the app called "ICE Tunes" to be the best. ANd it's just more than a car music player, it has a GPS speedometer, g-force, time, weather, map, and heading. I'm also looking into getting a wi-fi OBD-II dongle for the car and running "DashCommand". It'd be more to impress people.

I talked to the guy that created the mount for the older WRX's and he said it wasn't worth it and he wouldn't do it again. The market segment is very small and Apple changes their products so often it's hard to keep up in a costly manner. He said it cost him ~$20,000+ to make them from start to finish. He also had problems with the production and timeliness of the company who was creating them. We'll see, I'm currently researching laser scanning to get a point cloud of the radio bezel so I can model it in a 3D program, and looking into the cost to get it plastic injected and painted. Might start a Kickstarter page if I really get into it and there is a lot of interest.
