So happy I got to try my new car and tires out in the snow. Even if I was driving normal to save fuel, I still enjoyed passing people who are slowed to a crawl because they can't get grip lol.
Still, I'm surprised we got snow so early over here in NY... ( Queens ). Slap on your winter setups if you haven't already and be safe boys! And girls!

Be careful to those who are not on winters yet, our cars are not invincible! If you lose control keep the wheels moving forward as you cannot brake out of a skid.

this caught me off guard with repairing stuff from the hurricane and working, i haven't had time to switch rubbers yet... I just babied it home from work and took out my explorer when they called me back into work to plow. Yeah i'm one of the guys who takes away the fun, however i normally get the last play session in one of the MASSIVE parking lots here on campus

hey guys , hope ya'll are having fun/being safe in the snow. I got a simple question. I've had my car for a few months now, first time ever in a subie/ any awd, so this is obviously my first time in snow in this. How bad is it going to be with my summers still on. I've had plenty of experience in snow with FWD, and RWD cars in snow, but not with awd yet.
Guess just dont drive like a douche? lol |

If you still have summers on, think you can swap out for a set of at least all seasons? AWD tends to make people overconfident. In about 4" snow I was slipping with all seasons at about ~27mph, probably much worse with summers.

summers just dont have the sipping needed to clear out the snow packed in between your treads. plus your rubber compound will prob be like bricks in the cold weather. some of the more streetable summers with full tread can work in light slush if push came to shove, but the really aggressive summers will just have you fishtailing.
also, dont be overconfident just because you can accelerate with the awd...it wont help you stop or steer into a tree... |

Summer tired are useless. I saw a vid of a wrx with stock dunlops trying to drive in mild snow... he was sideways the entire time.

We actually got more than I thought. Lie was a parking lot tonight. I'm planning on taking the truck to work tomorrow and putting the winters on after Thanksgiving. It's supposed to warm back up to 60 after this storm so I think I can get a few more weeks out of my summer setup. I was lucky I took the Toyota to work today because the Subby was low on gas, I never would have made it home with my summers.

Thats weird.. Overconfident was exactly the word I told my GF when I got to her house after driving. Cause you would think with awd, this is a piece of cake. Luckily it's not sticking too bad now. But I had no probs during drive over, alittle slipping here and there. But I kept it on the highway where it's just wet and luckily my tread on these tires are pretty good for now.
Definitely going to change my future mods list around so I can get some winter tires. Sooner the better |

yeah, I drove the family out to dinner tonight, it wasnt too bad since I slapped on the winters 3 weeks ago (wanted to store my summers early), just cranked the dccd to full
. just have to remember how to drive on snow again...though I think this slush will melt by tomorrow afternoon. |
