I am looking for a reasonable replacement upgrade for the speakers in my '12 STI sedan. I have the 6 speaker STI limited with the nav head unit. just wondering which ones would be good for around $1000 total

Focal Polyglass. The rear coaxials are on sale at Crutchfield for $140. Can't remember the price on the components.
Add to that wiring adapters and mounting adapters and you are well under $1000. You could add quite a nice 4-channel amp at that price. Check out my build for ideas: http://www.subaruaudio.net/my-wrx/audio-system/ I am somewhere in the $1K range for EVERYTHING. |

This is on my how-to site, but I'll post it here as well:
My only warning about Crutchfield is that if Crutchfield does not have or sell the proper adapter, they simply list the item as not fitting or the speakers will not come up on their search results. I have made dozens of adapters to put 6.5″ speakers in the front and doors of Imprezas (including WRX and STi modela), Foresters, and Legacy models when Crutchfield says that they don’t fit in the car at all. This includes 5.25″ rear speakers in the rear of Foresters and Impreza models. As an example, the Polks that I have in the rear my WRX (dB651 coaxials) are listed as a no-go item by Crutchfield because they don’t sell the proper mounting adapter. When I ordered them I had to call and have them do a manual override to get the free wiring harness to go with the speakers. Even if they DO sell/carry the adapter, it is a peice of crap. I have a whole stack of the adapters at my house and they NEVER fit right...Impreza, Forester, WRX, Legacy, BRZ...I have adapters for ALL of them and none of them fit. That is why I started making my own. |

If I recall correctly, the Kappa Perfect will require a spacer of 1" in depth, which will get you close to the door panel in the front. It should fit, but it will be tight.

Hi-
Just took delivery of the 2013 Impreza Premium with double-DIN head unit without Navigation. My old Forester had Infinity Reference 6 1/2 two-ways in the front and they sounded fine. I'm looking at the KFC-1664S three-ways for my new Impreza. Does anyone have any experience with these? I expect to power them with a Clarion CX501. Thanks, Sig |

So is it better to not use the kappa perfect? I have a very good discount with JBL/INFINITY products and. They're currently having an annual sale so extra saving. Any recommendation what I should order in both front and back?

I would be interested in a set of custom adaptors for the fronts in my '13 STI. The factory speakers sound tinny and rattle too much. Do you offer these to the general public?

I just finished my install today. I used a Alpine MRX-V60 5-Channel Amp and JL Audio C2-650 Evolution 6 1/2's front and rear. It sounds really good and I don't think I am going to need a sub but with the 5-channel amp it will be a simple install if I decide I want it down the road sometime.
I got the stuff off Amazon and it ran me about 450, but if I would have purchased it off of Crutchfield it would have been closer to 850-900. I did need to modify the stock spacers which I didn't expect I would have to do. So make sure you by some just incase! |
