Default Electrician Seeking Work

Howdy NWIC,

I know no one around here really knows who I am, but I'm hoping you might help me out anyway because often times word-of-mouth is the best way to find a good job. If you point me to a good job opening and they hire me, not only will I be super grateful but I'll take you and your SO out for dinner & drinks when I get the first paycheck.

I'm a licensed (01) commercial electrician currently working in critical facilities maintenance at an AT&T data center in Redmond. My company lost the contract with AT&T and we're getting the boot at the end of the month. My company doesn't have any other open positions in Western WA so unless I'm willing to relocate I'm getting laid off, and I really don't want to relocate to the middle of nowhere, so I'm looking to see what else is out there.

I've worked in new construction (residential & commercial) and critical facilities maintenance for the last 6 years. Before becoming an electrician I worked in IT as a helpdesk tech, network administrator and network operations center lead. I also worked for awhile in QA, testing embedded software on cell phones.

In between those two careers I worked in a couple of machine shops - one a production shop down on Harbor Island and the other an automotive shop in Everett building hot rod/race car engines.

I'd like to find work in facilities maintenance (sometimes also called a building engineer) or doing residential & commercial service work.

Any help the NWIC can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks!

And just in case it matters - I really do own a WRX. Here it is before all the stickers were added to the rack wind deflector:

I know people in that field in PSNS if you're willing to go that route. I know it's a bit of a hike from Seattle, but they pay for an Orca card so you can take the ferry. Seattle/Bremerton ferry drops you right outside one of the gates. There are a number of people in Shop 51 (Electricians) that share your story. Let me know.

I agree. I know some people that work at the shipyard/psns in bremerton and they LOVE it there. And when they go there they don't leave and make s career of it.

Thanks for the tips! I'm not super eager to work in Bremerton but if nothing turns up on this side of the Sound I'll definitely consider it.

Spent the afternoon applying at Seattle City Light and Boeing. Those are tough jobs to get so we'll see what happens.

Boeing was recently looking for a commercial electrician, keep an eye out.
