Default Issues with 2011-2012 STi

my question is what are some of the issues that you have run into with your 2011-2012 STi?? and if the purpose is to race with it would you get it? or simply should just wait for the new model STi comes out......?

So far my 2011 STI LIMITED. , ALL STOCK! motor failed, left AND right front directional harness had some kind of problem , alignment was bad from mile 1 , and the reverse lockout sticks in the unlocked position. Which means you can't get into 5th gear @ 70MPH but you can easily put the car in reverse. Oh and after the shortblock was replaced. I had a software issue 2 miles later. SOA are the only ones who can update it. They don't come to town until next week. The car has been at the dealer for 22 days now.

I have a 2011 sti it is a great car luv how it handles. Got the car tuned before going to the track cuz if their crappy stock tune which highly advise if anybody is going to track the car. My tuner wouldn't even complete a baseline run cuz the ecm was pulling timing something fierce which was the nail in the coffin to get a protune lol

Sorry to here about your luck obviously your dealer didn't pdi your car cuz they r suppose to check the alignment before delivery.Hope they gave u a loaner car until your sti is fixed. I would raise hell over that for sure for cutting corners best of luck hopefully no more issues don't like hearing bs about dealers not doing their job properly especially when it involves high end models

Agreed. But I could live with the muffed alignment. I don't expect much from auto manufacturers any more. Its the rest of the problems I have had. The engine failure. The 2 weeks wait for a 5 minute update makes my head explode. I am so mad about that honestly I'm just defeated. Subaru won! They have my money. And I have their broken car. Chicks just aren't feeling my loaner car. Sonata. Sad face.

3800 miles on my '12 and it has been flawless so far. Waiting til 5k to do a compression test and then a dyno tune at Cobb SoCal. So far this is my favorite STI and this one is #4 .

i think on the track the main issues is overheating.
if i was buying something to go to the track with....alot.
i would not buy the sti unless you are planning on lots of "track" mods.
guys with track time can probably give more input.

Im feel awful to seemingly bash a brand I have supported for so long. However the next generation STI has been rumored to be many things. No matter how good it has been said to be. You won't see me driving one. The game seems to be changing. Mitsubishi is calling it quits on the evo. Rumor has it, turbo diesel as it is fazed out. No matter what Subaru does. If they only cared half as much as NASIOC members , we would all have something to look forward too. And we would all probably be driving better cars. Lets just hope for the best. And meanwhile I will be expecting a diluted problematic $40,000 POS. I hope I am wrong. Time will tell.

From what I've heard and clearly if Subaru is returning to wrc the Jdm will have a 1.6l and the usdm will have the 2.0l now weather it will be electric Turbo or standard will be determine but will produce the same power. The sti will definitely have a wide body stance with a shorter wheel base. Weather it will have 2 or 4 door havnt heard anything but the drivtrain and suspension will be specific to the sti. I bet sequential gear box might be an option I hope not a cvt lol

@ Gordyzero. I know this is an old thread, but I'm researching the known issues on the 2011 STI as I'm looking to purchase a 2013 STI. I too live in VT. I was considering buying from our local Subaru dealership, but I've had terrible luck with them lately with my 11' WRX. An out of state dealership is able to give me a great deal on mine as a trade in, but after reading so many different threads, I'm becoming more hesitant about purchasing an STI. I was curious, have you had any luck with anyone fixing your issues, and have they continued since?

You're trading an '11 WRX for a '13 STI? Why? Unless you're going to track it, the change seems silly to me. I know some people just have to own an STI and I get it, but unless you're going to track your car you won't see that much of a difference for the additional money.

And I know some people settle for the WRX, and I get that too.
