Default About to buy a 2002 Subaru WRX, a few Questions

Hey Everyone,
First time buyer here, about to purchase a 02 Subaru WRX with just 100k on her. First just want to say that a WRX is my DREAM car and I am really excited about possibly picking this beast up.

So my big questions are, what should I be looking for maintenance wise. Carfax is clean, 3 owner, but doesn't have any records of timing belt/water pump, just the general maintenance for the car.

Dealer is looking for 8k for the vehicle and I am thinking of offering somewhere below 8, just because I am going to need to get the timing belt changed, thought about flushing/changing all of the fluids, getting a new air filter, etc.

Anybody have some suggestions on things to look for and or get changed once I purchase the vehicle (if all goes well)

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Yea I mean I have a general idea of what to look (all thanks to scanning the forums on here) but just wanted to see if I am missing anything. I wish I could upload a picture of her, it looks so clean!

not 100% sure. The dealership literally just traded it in, and the guy I talked to said he knows there is a boost gage in it, and that a mechanic, from another dealership (under the same autogroup), had owned it. He sent me some photos of the car, and is in the process of getting me more info. I will be going to look at it on Monday

I also bought a used high mileage WRX (133k to be exact). things i looked for were previous or current mods, leaking power steering pump, valve covers, oil cooler, radiator and torn cv boots. You mentioned timing belt, i ended up buying a kit with pulleys and new water pump. Running stage 2 since purchase with no problems.

Get it inspected before you sign anything (called a pre-purchase inspection). And not by your uncle/whatever, by a Subaru shop that knows Subarus inside out.

They will know what to look for, what to watch out for, counsel you on what's actually up with the car, tell you if the timing belt has been done, etc.

I might add that if you do buy it (or any other wrx), be careful what fluids go into it.
The 5 speed transmissions are extremely picky about fluid. They often sound and feel like they are going the crap out with the wrong stuff in it. Stick with Subaru's Extra S or Uncle Scotty's Cocktail.
Also do NOT USE Mobil 1 5w-30. It does not do well in these cars. Shell T6 5w-40 is very well regarded. Its not too expensive either.
Do yourself a favor and read up on as much as you can (the stickies are awesome). NASIOC has loads of great info at your finger tips.

Good luck, I hope it's a good car for you.
