Question Good, bad and ugly with the 2015-2016 STi?

Hey guys,

Looking for some opinions from those that own a new '15-'16 STi. I'm considering trading my 09 WRX sedan for a new '16 STi Base that I'm getting for a pretty good price. I know, I know...many of you will say to jump all over it since the 08-10 WRX is the bastard child of the Subie World. I bought the 09 new and have been the only owner. It has 47k miles. The dealer is giving me $12.5k as is. It currently puts down 320 awhp and 345 ft-lb tq (dyno tuned). It also has ISC coilovers that I will be swapping out for the OEM if I do decide to trade it in. I really like my car but it is aging. It runs solid but I know it is only a matter of time before things start breaking...the AC compressor just went out and I was involved in a minor incident that is going to require the whole front bumper cover to be repainted.

What I really want to know is how do you guys like the new STi? What are your complaints about it? I test drove it yesterday and it handles really well. I was a little unimpressed with the power but I guess it's because I'm used to mine. Also, the clutch pedal felt REALLY soft compared to my WRX. It will be my DD and I only plan to swap the cat-back exhaust and run it like that for a while, not going "stage 2" or anything like that any time soon. Recommendations? Things I should know/consider? Any input that you new STi owners can provide will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tony

Hey bud. Not that my input really counts but I just got the 2016 wrx. Went from a jetta 2.5 5spd. So all in all in my case. Was a huge change. But I looked into getting sti and for me the wrx was the better choice. Less lag. Almost like the car doesn't even have a turbo. Lol. Handling is awesome. All I can say is, if your gonna mod. Def do the sti. But I couldn't justify the extra money for stuff I don't need. And btway. Stock dynoed the wrx make 2 more lbs of torque to the wheels vs the sti which has a 37 more hp. Either way you'll enjoy the sti.

And forgot to mention. That I'm with Ya on the clutch. I know your talking about sti but still similar. And the tranny is totally different for both cars and I will put that on one dislike on the wrx is the 2nd gear sometimes sucks to get into. I know she only has 850 miles on it and it's still getting broken in but damn. Wtf. It's a new car and I thought it would be smoother than it is

It's rumored to use the first internal combustion engine ever produced. It gets about 40 rods to the hogshead and that's the way thems drivers likes it. It's not a bad car other than the engine basically being a flintstone mobile.

edit: and of course being old you can mod the hell out of it quite easily and we know what it can handle compared to say a WRX or BRZ

Well it is the Impreza WRX STI... Or at least it was still an impreza in the past even if they don't call it that anymore.

I'm not going argue semantics with you again.

All I'm saying is (OP,) if you want opinions about a 2016 STi, why ask Impreza owners?
