Default How much is my 2002 WRX Motor and Trans Worth? (170,xxx Miles)

Long story short... a Pole ended up on the roof of my WRX. I am going to part it out but the only thing that I worried about selling is the motor and trans and Im trying to figure a fair sale prices. The engine still runs great and has no problems; starts right up and runs strong. The car still drives fine so my guess is that trans is still in good condition too.

The car has 170,xxx Miles on it

How much is the motor worth?

How much is the trans worth (its an automatic)?

Any help is greatly appreciated.. Thanks!

I didn't want to answer this for two reasons:

1) There are people with FAR more experience than I
2) This question is extremely subjective

I can tell you that an 02 WRX motor with over 170k on it is not going to be worth as much as a "less worn" motor. 170,000 miles is a LOT for these cars (not subarus, just turbo'd engines that haven't had a rebuild). Mine has 168k and I can tell you that I have yet to find another WRX in my area with even 3/4 the miles mine has. I can also tell you that automatic transmissions are not really desirable by MOST people - at least not on these forums. That being said, there are conversion projects or people with N/A's who are ALWAYS looking for a good deal on an FI engine. I was until I got my 2002 WRX.

It all depends on the area you're selling from and who you sell it to.

Something is worth what someone else will pay for it. Simple.
