Default New subaru owner in Brooklyn NY

Hey everyone, my name is Mitch and I am new to these forums as well as to owning a subaru. This is also my first car with a manual transmission (I do have about a year of experience driving stick though).

I live in the Mill Basin part of Brooklyn, NY and I drive a 2012 red STI sedan. First I just want to thank my friend Ivan known as Jive Turkey on these forums for helping me out and finding this amazing car for me. I wouldn't be driving this without his help. I've had it for about 4 days now and I am just loving it. I traded in my Cadillac Escalade, so obviously it's a big change for me.

I'm making this thread mainly for an attempt to meet people who live fairly close to me who also drive subarus. This way I can start to learn more about these cars, as I never owned a Subaru before, and of course meet new people! So if anyone wants to meet up or if there is anything going on, let me know and I will try to be there

Thanks a lot guys

Hey thanks a lot! Unfortunately I wont be able to make it this month, but I will definitely not make plans for the next time! It sounds really fun and something I'd like to be a part of.

Welcome to the forums and to the Subaru world.

As far as meets go there are plenty. I, myself, live in Brooklyn area. Not many people drive the color red around NYC, so your pretty unique in that sense.

I recommend learning your car before doing any upgrades regarding power or suspension. AWD does not make you invincible but you do learn to love it compared to FWD/RWD cars. Also a great way to learn is doing the tristate run that sqc151 has mentioned.

Remember be safe and reasonable when driving your car.

As far as winter selection there's sooo many choices to choose from, blizzaks are very popular but I would also say it depends on how much 'snow' driving you do. Do u do winter sports and drive up to VT often? Will most of your driving be on paved tristate highways?

Take time learning your car. Auto-x is a great way to learn it's limits as well.

Welcome to the forums. I'm in the Flatbush area and will give you a thumb's up if I see you. I drove with All Season's for all of last winter (during storm) with no problems. I drive to NJ everyday and dedicated snow tires are not needed. Just a thought.
