A time or two over the years I have pulled out left across traffic only to realize the car in the lane was coming faster than I expected. Without really thinking, I let out the clutch a little and re-engaged, keeping the throttle down. It gave me a very necessary launch. It all happened so fast I can't even tell you what rpm it got to, although I would suspect about 4k.

Yes, burning clutch smell afterward, but well worth getting out into traffic safely. I certainly don't make a habit of it, or ever do it just for fun.

Also try practicing on an empty parking lot, launching while making a left turn. That way, muscle memory can take over and you wouldn't have to think about it most of the time (or any at all)

Yes I would try it only in a safe environment.

I would try it on a surface with low friction so while you're learning you don't kill your transmission. Gravel, after rain, in snow, etc.

That way excess torque goes into wheel spin rather than your drivetrain.

For normal daily driving i usually just launch at around 1500-2000rpm and never have any bogging or slip issues. Basically go with whatever your comfortable with.

Something in which I want to get going relatively fast but not break neck speed of drag racing. I would like not to have the engine bog down when I let out the clutch.

Thanks
First, don't listen to everyone else on this thread - they are just giving you a hard time.

Under the dash, left side, there is a black door. It has two hex screws, #4 and #2. Make sure the remove the #4 first completely before pulling on the latch. Then start removing the #2 hex screw.

There is a red tab (sticker with SPT label) - note if you DO remove this it will invalidate any warranty on the car (so do it at your own risk).

Then unscrew the metal face plate. (4 regular screws).

It will reveal the launch control box. Please note that when the cars are shipped to the U.S. the launch control is set to the OFF position. This is because it does NOT meet U.S. Federal Standards.

You will need a safety key, you can buy one from SubyLaunchRally.com (they are about $60 - but worth every penny).

Insert the key and press the button and get ready for some REAL Launch Control fun!

The 5sp has a much taller 1st, so they are even harder to break traction at the same engine power.
What? I can break traction no problem in my WRX, stage 1 with cobb intake on all seasons on dry pavement at ~40F pavement.

I have the same problem as OP, Ive only been driving stick for 6 months and according to my brother his 0-15mph is faster in his automatic mazda 3.

Basically if Im not doing an all out launch at 3.7K and burn my tires on launch then I bog it and have a slower than non-launch start. I will try slipping the clutch more at that grabbing point.

I find it hard to believe you "burn your tires" at a 3.7k launch.

Sarcasm is certainly lost on the youth.

I am just waiting for the first post of someone attempting to even find the launch box.
