Default Just got towed... need some info

I'll keep this simple.

Car was towed on front two wheels. It was less than .5 miles if that(and then stopped and waited for me to run up there because someone told him I was coming tog get my car). Tower said car "didn't lock up" and so "it should be fine"...

Paid the fine and let my car down. The car is driving fine... no problems or vibrations.. should I be worried?

He said he did. This is my first AWD car so I honestly have no clue how he did that without getting in the car but he said the wheels didn't lock and he put it in neutral.

BTW I have an A/T

Make sure you have the name of the towing company and the operator, the owners manual states:

Never tow AWD models (Both CVT and MT models) with the front wheels raised off the ground while the rear wheels are on the ground... (9-12)

The idiot should have known better, take it to a subaru dealer for inspection and file a claim with the towing company against their insurance if the Subaru tech thinks there are any problems with the transmission or AWD system.

Nice to know that the guy who hooked up your AWD car thought it was fine, etc. I'm sure he is an expert on what happens when you tow a car where the front and rear wheels are connected by a drivetrain, and do not turn independently

Did you leave the car in gear? Parking brake on? Not sure how this guy can claim everything was ok if the car was in gear. Since the rear wheels were raised I guess the parking brake won't matter. But being in gear will.

Nah it was in park, no parking break and he raised the fronts since i was backed in. Either way I just got back from the dealer.. Because he barely towed it up the street everything was fine. So no foul, but I at least called the company to let them know.

When the salesperson was giving me info about the car before I drove it off the lot, he was emphatic about stating that if I ever need to get the car towed, I should request a flatbed.

i'm guessing this was more of a parking violation than a requested tow....

From the owner's manual:

WARNING

Never tow AWD models (both CVT
and MT models) with the front
wheels raised off the ground while
the rear wheels are on the ground,
or with the rear wheels raised off the
ground while the front wheels are on
the ground. This will cause the
vehicle to spin away due to the
operation or deterioration of the
center differential.

Using a Flatbed Truck

This is the best way to transport your
vehicle. Use the following procedures to
ensure safe transportation.
1. Shift the select lever into the “P”
position for CVT models. Shift the shift
lever into the “1st” position for MT models.
2. Pull up the parking brake lever firmly.
3. Secure the vehicle onto the carrier
properly with safety chains. Each safety
chain should be equally tightened and
care must be taken not to pull the chains
so tightly that the suspension bottoms out.

Towing With All Wheels on the Ground

1. Release the parking brake and put the
transmission in the “N”/neutral position.
2. The ignition switch should be in the
“ACC” position while the vehicle is being
towed.
3. Take up slack in the towline slowly to
prevent damage to the vehicle.

Well I already took it up the the dealer and had them check to see if there were any problems. The Mech Drove it around as well and said everything was fine.

And yes this was a "parking violation" Though I was legally parked, with a visitor permit that the tower claimed he didn't see.

Maybe someone should do another group buy for "caution AWD decals/stickers". I would buy one.

I like this idea, but must ask:

Where would you place a sticker like this, so that it reminds someone (you? the tow truck operator?) what needs to be done?

I'm pretty sure that most municipalities require tow trucks to be licensed to operate. In any case they have to have insurance, and are liable for damage to your car.

If it was my car I would be raising hell. However your car appears not to have been damaged, which lends more credence to the CVT being FWD most of the time. If he had tried to tow a 5 speed that way the front wheels would have been spinning.

I've never seen anything that says there isn't at least some percentage of power going to the rear wheels as a default. I don't think this proves anything.

How the hell could there be no damage, if the car was in park?! The center diff had to be fried...
