still haven't seen a good sale on Diehard Platinums....

yesterday @ +1F w/o being plugged in (well it was, but it was 7hrs after the timer shut it off) it was pretty slow cranking. but this morning at -6F and plugged in it started great. it is really amazing at how much even a 0W oil will drag down the starter.

still waiting for that sale...

I just installed the Bosch battery in my car today. Here's the one:

http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9073717/00444

Pep Boys currently offers 20% off any order over $100, so I bought this $132 battery for $106.

I'll be curious to see how it does on a really cold morning. I have a detached, unheated garage, so it gets cold in the winter.

While consumer reports says Walmart's battery is good, everyone I've heard says they're ****. Heard about 50 bad reports for every good one.

Yeah, that's why I chose the Bosch battery instead.

Just put the Optima Red top Group 35 in my '12. Had advanced auto test it before installing it. Only rated at 750cca. Tested at 1210cca! Gotta love the optima. even if it is $215 out the door. As for the stock "battery" ( I use that term loosely) at 3 yrs old it only tested at 203cca...

Honestly fellas my 2013 with 95k miles has been cranking fine in 6 degree to the 15 degree avg I've been experiencing in CT and now Michigan. The only slow or almost missed cranks I've had happen after a few off on and starts you encounter when running errands, Which I don't believe is related to the battery as People have reported putting in more robust batteries and still experiencing this phenomenon. Long story short the battery is still doing the job for me and doesn't seem to be as weak a link as I fear it may be. Just my experience for anyone who hasn't had any issues but debating on shelling out money on something that isn't broken.

I'd just like to add that a 640CCA battery still cranks slowly in cold weather. It's not the battery, it's the weak ass starter which just barely does the job.

Well, the other day in 5F weather, the car failed to start after work. This was unrelated to the "hard to start" problem some people experience infrequently. This seemed wholly like a battery issue.

I stopped by a battery place today, and they said the battery was in perfect condition, 500 CCA, great voltage, no evidence of any problem.

Is 500 CCA really not enough to get the car going in 5F weather, or does the oil slow it down that much, or does the battery lose a ton of CCA when the temp drops?

Note, the 500 CCA measurement today was in 50F weather after the car had been running a while.

And, at work that day, it took a couple times, but it did eventually get going, just really slowly, and really begrudgingly. It really didn't want to get going after sitting all day in 5F weather.

So is AMG really worth it? I have a couple friends with Red Tops and they'd swear by it... I can get the Bosch AMG right now cheaper by $40-50 compared to the Optimas.

That doesn't make sense. My car doesn't crank slowly even at -25f with my diehard plat. Battery. (Rebadged odyssey).
