Default Keyless Remote Troubles

I have a 2005 Sti and the lock buttons on both of my keyless entry remotes don't work, so every time I get out of my car I have to hit the lock button on the door and if I forget I have to walk all the way back to my car to lock it. Is the problem with the remotes themselves (they were this way when I got the car) and if I have to replace the remotes, what would be the best one to get?

Could a dead battery cause JUST the lock buttons to stop? Cause the unlock button works

Open up the remote and pull out the circuit board. More than likely, the little 'tabs' that attach to the circuit board have broken off behind the button.

This is usually caused by dropping the remote.

If you know what you are doing, it can be reattached....I've used crazy glue.

The only other option is to get a new remote

the remotes die frequently what you can do sometimes is buy a new or used one and then calibrate it yourself to your car or take it to the dealer to do that.

So I tried glueing the piece back in place and it got my button to work, but kept setting my car alarm off so I'm just gonna get a new remote. Would I be able to get one with a trunk release button or the better looking, square remote with orange and blue button? Cause currently I have the teardrop remote with only lock and unlock

The replacement remote will be the teardrop one, but the trunk button on it will work for putting the car in and out of valet mode...it will not operate the trunk. Unless you can find one, the bule/orange ones are no longer being made.

Well you can buy the blue/orange ones on amazon. I'm just wondering if it'd work
