Default Passing of my GC8

So as of yesterday the 23rd of November 2012, it became official that my car was no longer mine. She was a 2001 Impreza 2.5 RS with around 170k miles on her. Her name was Iria from an anime movie that I liked when I was around 10-11 years old.

So how did she pass? Well the day that Hurricane Sandy arrived I decided to check out the area of Waldorf. Well if you know the area around the mall, that is where it happened. Well I had the theater on my left hand side and the mall on the right. Well I crossed the three way stop and decided to drive through this ankle deep puddle. It is a Subaru and she has been in worse conditions before. Well she passed away right in the middle of the puddle. Water siezed up the engine either from the intake or from the exhaust. Techs never gave me a 100% diagnostic of how it happened.

For the past two weeks I have been working with my insurance company (USAA). They informed me that I will be recieving only 2800 -500 deductable, 2300 for the value of the engine. Well last Friday they called me and informed me due to their policy of natural disasters that I was not allowed to keep her. It was only water damage to the engine and not the body of the car. So then they changed their story that the 2300 that I am recieving is the value of the entire car.

Before yesterday, I had stripped that car of everything of high value that I could replace with stock items or autoshop parts. I did feel pretty bad for violating my car like that. Everything from JDM seats to the speaker system. Due to the short amount of time and the holiday season, I was unable to get all the pieces that I wanted off that car. JDM Ver. 3 rear seats, modded STi exhaust and the Motegi Racing wheels. I asked the insurance company every question in order to keep those items but they had to be replaced with stock or equalvant item.

So yesterday I signed off the title to IAA in Brandywine. To be honest this was a heart choking event, throughout the entire process was heart breaking. I joked that I would be buried in this car when I died. But that dream is now dead as she is.

So what is next? Well I am in the process of purchasing a Subaru Legacy GT Spec B 2008. I will be driving up to Irwin, PA on Monday to pick her up. So why go from a sporty Impreza to a Legacy? Well I am getting old and it is time to grow up. I have three girls to transport and I go to work in a business suit. So I guess it is only matter of time that I would have to advance my image of my car. Though I wanted to purchase a Spec B since they debuted here in the States.

This is not a rant of my insurance or hate post. This is just the remembering the final days of my car. Thank you reading this and have a happy holiday.

Mike

You'll be ecstatic with the Spec. B.

Start going to legacygt.com.

Xero, I have been having trouble sleeping since I arranged with the dealer for the Spec B. I am just getting gittery just waiting for the day to be over with. LOL, I may even drink myself to sleep soon as I get home from work. Just to end the day so I can go get this sweet car. I already opened an account with that site a few days ago. Though I use to have one with that site long ago, but I guess it became inactive.

sorry for your loss i had a similar event happen to me with my integra way back in the day. i fought for a good bit and was able to keep the car but it had to be titled as a salvaged car. even though it was immaculate with a busted motor. On another note, i'm new in the waldorf area and looking for some dirt roads or area that i can do some rallyx type driving for a photo shoot with a friend. I never seem to get good pics at rallyx events so i want to set something up but not go to jail. Do you by any chance know of any? Sorry all not to take it off subject but i don't see many post on here for this area.

Funny you ask, I asked the same question a few days ago. Apparently there is nothing in the area unless you know someone with private property. It sucks...

ButtDyno, I have been pretty busy trying to make arrangements for the SpecB. Now that I have it I will try to post a few photos of my GC8. I will even post the last two pics of her when I had to field strip her before giving her up to the Auto Auction.

DirtySTi, it is a real punch in the D*** to live in this area if you enjoy running around in the dirt. I do have a DSLR to take pics with. But I am not going to run behind you in my Spec B. If you find any good spots I could try to make time to help you out in your RallyX photos.

lucky the disparity in value was not too too much. What if it were a $20K car with a $5K engine?

Congrats on the new ride though

I ran into someone local (friend of hotel staff) that takes his jeep off road and told me about a few spots he takes his truck mudding. he is also a photographer, win win for me. We are starting out behind the lowes in la plata tomorrow afternoon around noonish. not anything that i can set up a rallyx course or anything but a few good spots to punch the gas and hopefully get some good sideways shots. If anyone wants to come play text me and i'll give ya directions 843 five 6 8 8617.

And again sorry to be off subject in your thread.
