Default AVCS cams question

Ok, I installed kelford avcs 264 cams.everything works fine however am very dissapointed with the sound at idle. My first subaru was non avcs and at idle it was cray sick. So the question i have is what can i do to get this avcs cam to be idling cray sick.

should i get larger cams? if so what size 272?

ley me know your thoughts an experienece, and yes i installed cams for the cray sick sound @ idle( lol, lol)

You don't want to say you don't have cams?

If you only care about sound get some 280 cams. They will sound really lumpy lol. Then sell me your Kelford 264s

You came in here and asked a stupid question. Cams are not sound modifiers by nature, they are performance modifiers. The bigger the cam, the lumpier idle it will be, or "cray sick" by your terminology. A larger cam will severely take away from the drivability of your car and will cost you dearly in gas mileage. Kelford cams are designed NOT to have a lumpy idle, so you inadvertently bought probably the best mod for your car.

If you want that sick sound go back to non-AVCS cams. AVCS cams will have less lope becasue they can change the cam overlap at idle to minimize it. Even AVCS 272s won't sound like non-AVCS 272s.

I would suggest you sell this car as well and buy a camaro/firebird and throw a "cray sick" cam in that. It'll give you the sound you want and that crowd is way more about cams for sound only.

Replacing 4 cams in a Subaru for sound only is what's stupid. Asking about it in the built motor forum is icing on the cake.

I do know what you are trying to achieve as we played around with it on my suby and evo. My sti wont run advanced cam timing at idle, but the evo did. He had 272s and added little advance and it made them sound rougher. My car however did change any for me, I believe ecu wont allow cam advance at idle.

If it would work, you could barely bump it at idle to give the rougher sound and as soon as you go into another load you could change it bad to how it should be for the performance benefits.

AVCS cars don't really have the rough idle. That's all.

Larger cams, yes cool sound but..
Remember to upgrade your valvetrain and spend that extra $$$ before you have issues and it become twice as costly.
