Default 2011 wrx aftermarket head unit uses stock BT buttons

does anyone know of any aftermarket headunit that allows the use of the stock bluetooth buttons as well as all volume and steering wheel controls? I want a better headunit but not willing to sacrifice my steering wheel controls. I know the whole trick with the LC6i but would be wired us as a last resort to hook up an amp for my speakers. An aftermarket headunit would be better.

Many head units will. You just need to get something like an ASWC to interface the buttons with the unit. Most head units DO NOT have voice command though, Mainly the most expensive (Z140BH for example) that would offer that, if they even do.

Look for an HU that supports on-hook, off-hook and voice command. Some makers only support one function for on/off-hook instead of two separate. Many do not have voice commands.

I have a 2011 WRX. I can tell you that the Pioneer z130BT does support all of the stock steering wheel functions with the use of the ASWC. I have this setup in mine and absolutely love it. the Z140BH would give you the same results.

Pretty much same here. I have the AVIC X940BT with the AXXESS interface and my controls all work.

Well, they didn't at first, but that was due to there being an orange/green wire as well as a green/orange one...

They added voice command back on the x940bt? I know the 920 had it, the 930 didn't for marketing differences between the Z and X series.

Shoot, I meant all buttons work except voice control, which is now "ATT" instead by default.

Just to clarify, voice control DOES work on the Z130BT.

well if voice control doesn't work then what do the bluetooth buttons do then? can you still program numbers in to call or what? If you could explain what each of the 3 buttons do. and also do your head units still use the factory bluetooth speaker?

On mine (Z130BT), as i have said, all steering wheel buttons work as they did with the stock h/u. As far as what speaker, it uses the speakers in your car. I think you meant do you still use the factory microphone. On the Z130BT, i did not use the factory mic or factory location. I used the mic that came with the headunit and mounted it on the steering column. I get great reception and people don't even realize i'm on bluetooth in my car. Much better then the stock mic/ location.

sorry to revive an old thread but i have a question for you avic x940bt HUs...

one was preinstalled in the 2011 sti i bought... and my steering wheel controls for the most part, work. the only buttons that dont work are the pick up and hang up buttons, all they do are change the folder my music is playing from.

would installing the axxess harness fix this?

Your car will already have a steering wheel module -- either an ASWC or one of the similar units from PAC Audio (for Pioneers, either SWI-PS or SWI-RC).

If your ASWC is too old, it might need a firmware update to support the phone/BT functions. Metra offers a special cable (their USB-CAB) you can use to do that yourself. Look at the sticker on the ASWC module. It should have a long number and a date. The last 3 digits of the number tell the firmware version it had when it was manufactured. It's possible the installer or previous owner updated it (but many don't).

If you have one of the PAC modules and it's too old, you may need a new module to support phone/BT functions. They should have a version label on theirs too, like this. I don't know the details of their version history, so you will have to call PAC's tech support (after you see what you have).
