Default Painting 06 wrx wheels, primer?

So I'm about to paint my wrx wheels and I don't know what primer I need, do I need a self etching primer?

Also how many cans do you think it would take?

Should I get a clear coat aswell?

I painted my winter wheels, so my finished product wasn't necessarily key besides it being decent and holding up to the elements.

I used Rustoleum wheel paint (I bought it at Advanced Auto Parts), and Rustoleum wheel paint clear coat.

I did mine in black, and used approximately 1 can of black for each wheel (they were initally painted red). I did 5 light coats of black, and then I used about 2 cans of clear-coat, and did 3 coats of clear coat for each wheel.

The best purchase I did was the spray can gun-adapter I purchased at Lowes to help my fingers not cramp up. It also gave me a better finished product.

Always use primer. Etching is best for raw metal!

so that being said an etching primer is not the way to go?
