Default Has anyone had a TD04 replaced with a VF52 under SOA warranty replacement?

Not sure if I should have posted this under SOA WARRANTY but here goes....

Ok I had a recent turbo failure that I documented on Incubuses thread about codes 0011 0021.
I have a 2008 WRX Hatch-back w/ 57000 mile - only mod is CAI

My question is -
Has anyone had their TD04 covered under warranty within the past 3-4 years? If so was it replaced with a VF52?

Im about to have mine replaced and after talking to the service writer he didnt know for sure.

Additionally- wouldn't the old TD04 have been superceded to the VF52 after 2009 production years?

Any input would be helpfull. I have 2700 miles left on the powertrain warranty and I figure may as well push for the upgrade if possible. Also does the warranty replacement get extended time/miles on top of the standard PWRTRN warranty period?

I'd go out on a limb here and say that they are not going to replace your turbo with one from a newer year ("upgrade") and if they do, you better hope they somehow tune you for it.

Not once in my 5 years at any dealer did we replace things like turbos with an upgraded model. Doing so opens up a can of worms.

No, SOA won't pay to upgrade your car for you. They replace everything with stock parts. The TD04 is stock on your car, not the VF52.

nope you'll be getting a TD04. If they were to swap in a vf52 they would need to retune your ECU and Subaru has never released a flash for such a swap. Stock parts for your year/make/model will be replaced with exact stock parts.

I just got off the phone with my service writer:

Yeah he thinks the same thing. I did find out that the original TD04 turbo Part Number had superceded once and would indicate that i am getting at least the latest version of the TD04 before they went to the VF52. Of couse the upgrade would have been sweet - but I am happy either way.

Additionally,

Service writer said that he thinks the replacement part will carry an additional 12month/12K in warranty coverage. So at least I have a year to figure out the fate of the car.

On 2nd thought whos to say I didnt have the superceded turbo in the original build. Plus from what I gathered the turbo failures are due to the oiling problems rather than the turbos themselves.

This whole thing is starting to become a royal pain in the ARSE!
