As with so many rules "clarifications" that have occurred over the past season, I believe it was Red Bull who were adjusting their maps and got caught/inspired a question from another team prior to the race in Hungary. There was no penalty, but from that point forward everything otbevo said.

I wish I had a list of all the things RBR did over the past couple seasons that had the other teams crying foul, because (to their credit), they never got penalized because they interpreted the rules to the nth degree. About the only things that comes to mind are the holes in the floor just forward of the rear tires (tire squirt slots) and the extra holes in the hub assembly which were used to ventilate heat out through the hubs for an aero benefit.

RBR tried the "force majeure" rule after running out of fuel during Abu Dhabi quali, and were found to be in breach of the regulations, but Mclaren failed after quali in Catalunya for the exact same thing.

The Official Review of 2012 the FIA Formula One World Championship DVD comes out tomorrow (the 15th). I pre-ordered through Amazon.
Amazon.com: Official Review of 2012 the Fia Formula One World: Artist Not Provided: Movies & TVAmazon.com: Official Review of 2012 the Fia Formula One World: Artist Not Provided: Movies & TV

In years past I've been able to find this DVD on torrent sites a week or two before the DVD release, but this year no dice.

For those of you who've never seen this program, it's about 3 hours of highlights from the season with commentary from well-known British personalities. It progresses race by race and shows highlights I didn't catch during the season.

Tickets for Monza have now gone on sale. Monza boasts the fastest average lap and fastest top speeds of the year. It's also one of the least expensive races to attend, with some grandstand seats costing only $225 for a 3-day pass.

I will be moving from England back to America at the exact weekend the race is scheduled. Anyone thinking about attending?

Well, then, today is that day!!!!!!

I'm thinking about going, too, since the government will foot the bill for my flight from Milan to America. Hotel for 5 days and race tickets for 3 days for <$1500? Yes, please.

Edit: Looked at lots of resources online and most of the grandstands have you watching through a fence. The facilities and transportation to the track were also heavily marked down. That explains the cost--I think I'll pass.

Go Pedro!

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/105129

Quote:
Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa will join the Ferrari team as a development driver for the 2013 Formula 1 season, the Italian squad said on Wednesday.

De la Rosa, 41, was left without a drive for this year after the HRT team, with which he had a contract for 2013, folded at the end of last season.

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali said the Spanish driver will join compatriots Fernando Alonso and Marc Gene at the team to assist with simulation work during the year.

"We must anticipate problems we have and focus on simulation," said Domenicali.

"We think Pedro is the right person to develop this type of activity. We think he is a driver that fits well within our group."

Domenicali denied that de la Rosa's friendship with Alonso was key to his signing.

"Clearly the fact that Pedro has a good relationship with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa is a positive factor, but the decision is purely technical," said the team chief.

De la Rosa, who made his Formula 1 racing debut in 1999 with Arrows, had already spent several years working as a test driver for McLaren before he returned to racing first with Sauber and then with HRT in 2012.

DE LA ROSA'S F1 CAREER

1998: Becomes Jordan test driver after winning Formula 3, Formula Nippon and Super GT titles in Japan.

1999-2000: Arrows race driver.

2001-2002: Starts '01 as Prost test driver before replacing Luciano Burti at Jaguar from Spanish Grand Prix.

2003-2009: McLaren test driver. Makes several starts in place of Juan Pablo Montoya in 2005 and '06, and takes first podium in Hungary '06.

2010: Makes surprise racing return with Sauber, but dropped after Italian GP.

2011: Becomes test driver for Pirelli for a spell, before rejoining McLaren as reserve. Makes a one-off return to a Sauber race seat to deputise for injured Sergio Perez in Canada.

2012: Back on the grid again with HRT, but team folds at end of season.

Imagine how much ballast they'd need if he was in F1.

yeah but if he could lay horizontal and see with a camera system it would get the center of gravity down a bit. then you could seal off the whole cockpit and reduce drag too.

Lotus had a sneak peek of their new car on Twitter. Of course, I can't access the pic to rehost it at work.

Can you see this?

Mark Webber to get new engineer for 2013 F1 season

Mark Webber will have a new engineer for the 2013 Formula 1 season, with Ciaron Pilbeam being replaced by Simon Rennie.

Pilbeam is set to become chief race engineer at Lotus.

Rennie moves in the opposite direction, having worked with Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen last season.

A Red Bull statement said: "We can confirm that Ciaron Pilbeam has left the team to take up a new position with Lotus.

"We're pleased to welcome Simon Rennie to Red Bull Racing who will be Mark Webber's race engineer."

Yeah, it was on my FB as well. A picture of some ducts of some kind. About the only pics I can see at work are hosted by imgur.

Alonso whatcha smokin man?

http://espn.go.com/racing/f1/story/_...e-start-season

Quote:
Fernando Alonso picks Lewis Hamilton

MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO, Italy -- Fernando Alonso is confident Ferrari will fight for the Formula One world title right from the start this season.

He picks Lewis Hamilton as the man to beat, rather than triple champion Sebastian Vettel.

Alonso lost out on the title in the final race of last season, finishing just three points behind Vettel as Ferrari's poor start to 2012 proved costly.

Ferrari struggled in the opening rounds, with its new car proving uncompetitive -- apart from Alonso's win in the second race in Malaysia.

Speaking at Ferrari's annual winter retreat in the Italian Dolomites on Thursday, Alonso says "it is maybe impossible to be worse than last year, so I am confident."

Alonso says Vettel "deserved to win three titles in a row" but adds "Hamilton remains my strongest rival."

Cant wait for this year to start, I think/hope it will be close between the top 4 marques, RBR, Ferrari, Mclaren and Lotus. I hope Kimi gets more comfortable and gets a good reliable rig under him, really challenging RBR.

Prediction for the top 5 in the championship;

Vettel
Kimi (very close to #1)
Button
Alon-slo
Webber
