Default billable service hours?

I'm currently having my engine built. I'm replacing the tgv's, water/oil pump and power steering while I'm in there

Looking over my invoice, my builder is charging me 1 service hour for TGV install and 1 service hour to install and bleed power steering pump. I was under the impression that stuff of that nature would be considered part of the build cost.

Are TGV's and new power steering additional work?

I would not expect that the power steering work would be covered.

Bleeding the power steering system is not an actual labor, but included in the description to accentuate the service. Are you having a new power steering pump installed? Or are they saying that the removal and installation of the power steering pump is an additional hour?

As far as the tgv's, if it takes a tool to perform the task of removing/replacing/installing, there will usually be a labor time involved. It's justified IMHO.

I'm replacing the power steering pump with a refurb. Wouldn't the removal and reinstall be included in engine tear down and rebuild. Seems like they would have to Re/Ri the pump anyway. I can maybe see the TGV's, but what the hell do I know

I am a former tech turned service writer, and I would not add labor time for swapping a part that is already being removed.
- TGVs I don't see why he'd charge extra, IF the eng is being disassembled.
-The power steering pump, might get laid to the side when removing, but petty to charge to remove the hoses. ......if he is flushing/servicing, beyond refilling system, that would justify additional labor charge.

My $.02

I was charged labor to have my tranny mount swapped to the Group N one when the tranny was already removed....

I own a shop and do builds all the time. the tvg comes off with the intake but to change it takes some more time you have to unbolt it from the intake and remove the injectors then bolt up the new ones and install the injectors thats time and If I had to mod it there would be a charge. The power steering gets set to the side to replace the pump takes extra work there would be a charge.

X2, as a tech I can understand the tgv's, but if you have to remove the power steering pump when you remove the engine(unless you leave it hooked up an let it hang), I don't see how you can be billed for an hour or that. Maybe like .5 to put the lines with copper rings with the new pump, but an hour seems a little
Much if its already being completely removed(which is usually part of the labor anyways). Just my opinion
