Question Whats a 'christian rock' band?

I've heard that bands like Linkin Park and POD (I think) among others are known as 'christian rock' bands...

what does that mean, exactly? That there's christian guys in the band? That they sing about christian stuff?

I'm confused

I think it is an oxymoron, since rock and roll is the devils music.. All that sinful noise and shaking of the hips and such. Good christians don't need any more music than the rapturous melody that fills their heads when they read the bible.

The thing about the Chirstian music industry is that it has a huge, ready to buy captive audience, the marketing is already done. Watch TBN on the weekends and you'll see the truly christian bands.

I know you guys don't want my thoughts (after all, I'm the resident "Jesus Freak")....but.

Christian rock is just christian based music in a rock genre.

POD is a somewhat christian band (not even their website speaks of them as christian, but our christian stations play them so maybe I'm out of the loop...but I like their music...hehe)

Creed and Linkin park are not christian bands. They have never been. Just because someone mentions the name Jesus or talks about the "afterlife" in some way, and doesn't cuss in their songs does not make them a christian or a christian band.

The denotion "christian rock" is simply to identify the type of music. If you just said "rock" people wouldn't think of it being christian and if you just called all christian music "christian" then you'd have kids wondering if the group is a rock group, gospel, or rap, or whatever. It's for marketing I guess.

"C" -- OT's Bible Thumper.

P.S. A small list of real christian rock bands...

JARS OF CLAY
SWITCHFOOT
TOBY MAC (mix of rap/rock)
SKILLET
AUDIO ADRENALINE
NEWSBOYS
PILLAR
PAX217
PROJECT 86

I'll ask my friend Ian, he played bass on half that album. I don't remember him ever mentioning that they were. He certainly isn't.

TBN = Trinity Broadcasting Network. The Reverend MC Hammer has a show with them....

I don't think Linkin Park is a Christian band, seeing that people preaching next to the bars on Main Street, HB say music like that is the devil. I say:monkey: your all a bunch of . Anyway thats what my experience has given me. Hey anyone seen the BOZZ Impreza STi RA from Japan, nice scoobie, HEhehehehe.

P.S. I think it's RA not sure though.

who gives a crap? if you like the music, it doesnt matter.
ive listened to both linkin park and pod and i cant tell that theyre singing about praising the lord and all that garbage.

If my opinion...a band is a "christian rock band" when they have song titles such as "Our God is an awesome God", and crap like that.

im hungry.

My favorite is Christian rap I remember flipping through channels one night, and there was a rap video on. I turned it back thinking "who is that?" I started listening to it a bit... listening to the lyrics... and then I noticed the TBN logo in the corner. Hardcore Christian Gangsta Rap.... HILARIOUS~!!!
