This won't fit your 02 WRX. These are phase 1 parts and the 02 is a phase 2 transmission.

It was mounted on the 3:9 ratio 5mt. I tried to get the part you are talking about off, but I could not, so I threw it away.
Did I mention I hate subaru?

I don't think it can even with that part. There are a lot of differences in the back end of the phase 1 and 2 trans.

I'd be buying this myself if I thought it would work on my 02 wrx trans.

On DCCD box.Take the cover off the top of the tail section, there is a little collar thing on the shift rod that you have to take a bolt out of before it can all slide apart.

I have taken the rod out. The whole part you are talking about will slide away form the Trans but only about 2 -3 inches. I try to pry it and it will pry to one side but will not come off.

You can take the whole thing off if you remove the top cover, then remove the small bolt on the shift lever reverse lockout tab. It's rather easy.....

The phase I housing can be found in thousands of transmissions littering our parts yards across the USA. Drill a hole for the wires to come through and you are set.

If I had the extra scratch, I'd buy this as a spare.
