Default Saleen 351 announced with 700 HP

Quote:
With Steve Saleen back at the helm of his namesake automaker, another recognizable name is reappearing in the Saleen sports car lineup. As previewed by the above rendering at the LA Auto Show, the Saleen 351 returns after a 13-year absence with 700 horsepower under the hood take that Shelby GT500.

That much horsepower is brought to you by a 351-cubic-inch (hence the name) supercharged V8 that also pumps out 655 pound-feet of torque. Power is laid down through a six-speed manual gearbox with a performance clutch and a 3.73 rear axle ratio. The brakes have been upgraded with 15-inch disks for improved stopping performance, too.

For styling, Saleen gave the car carbon fiber front and rear splitters, staggered-width 20-inch wheels, a functional butterfly hood scoop and what it refers to as an "F1-style tail lamp." Strangely, the tuning house didn't actually bring the 351 to the LA show, so we're going to have to wait a bit for more images of this bad boy. Pricing and release date have not been announced yet, either.

Interesting that they didn't bring one to the LA show.

Since it's a Saleen it will probably outhandle the Shelby nicely. I wonder what the price will be.

Same here. If I had to take a blind guess, and I mean really blind, I'd have to guess around 70k.

the original S351s were monters back in the day. Supercharged 351 Windsor motors stuffed into a Mustang.

Indeed it does.

So, let's recap because I think I'm missing something here: Saleen took the 2013 5.8L GT500 and bumped it 38 HP? What's that, a tune and cat backs?

Granted, the 3.73 rear will totally transform the car itself (e.g. liquid rear tires), but the "700" isn't anything to be all that impressed with considering what they started with.

I think its the package as a whole as it also includes the SMS S4 Complete Suspension System comes with struts, shocks, springs, anti-sway bars, and all mounting hardware. Plus the new 15" brakes, body panels, and wheels.
