Well. I'm not sure you know what a tune is...

If your car is running rich, your engine management is probably incorrect. Thus, tuning.

Any mods done? TBE, or Intake?

Bought the car already tuned yes mods stage 2 intake. Idk what else but has been tuned

I think running rich can be bad for your catalytic converter(s) over time. Something about un-burned hydrocarbons causing the cat to run hotter and wear out faster. I am sure someone here knows the process in much more detail than me and could expand on it.

Since the car is modified you should definitely have a tuner check out the tune to make sure it's within normal operating parameters and/or return the car completely to stock till all your issues have been resolved.

No way I could go back to stock. There's a bunch of upgrades. But anyone know of any local tuners located near 01832?

Incorrect...fuel smells like, well fuel! A sulfur smell is very typical of a catalytic converter on its was out.

Find out exactly what is done to your car. Take pictures, try and read what the parts say on them and post back here. Where did you buy the car from? How do you know its tuned and did they say where or by what? You said you have no money to spend right now so your in a tough spot.

I would ask your pops to loan you some money for a cobb accessport, seeing you need the car to get to work you will have no downtime. It will give you the peace of mind that your engine is running properly. That does not apply if you have bigger injectors and turbo though.

I noticed your in mass, check out EFI Logics in Bethel,CT. Its probably a couple hours from you but it will be well worth the drive. Or even just e-mail them, I am sure they will help you out.

I am sorry. My original post that you quoted said "good way to burn up the cat" but I didn't want to scare this guy so I erased it. I don't know if that smell appears when the cat starts going bad, or when it has already gone bad. What I do know is that running rich caused my cat to go bad on an older car. I don't know if there are other more common causes of catalytic converter failure. Also we don't know for sure if the smell is coming from his car or someone else's.

Vision....

He has a full stage II setup. The bugeye may be more forgiving but he absolutely needs a tune, or at least an OTS map for his mods.

Are we splitting hairs about semantics here? Don't tell the kid to just go run it wide open, jeez. He's already said he can't really afford to repair the thing. Bad advice man. Did you notice he also has an intake? Untuned? I don't care if it's a bugeye or not, the wrx is a maf setup.

Back when the WRXs were new to the US, people would run full catless TBEs with a MBC and no other tune. These cars got the living **** beat out of them without blowing up, assuming there wasnt a nut turning the MBC.

The 16 bit ECUs are a bit more flexible than the new 32 bit ECUs.

It says access port stage 2 tune. Was the cobb access port given to you when you purchased the car? It could have been re flashed before it was traded in/sold. As it has been stated your model/year does not REQUIRE a tune and is a bit more forgiving. I would just take it easy and stay out of boost until you can get a tune or some way of data logging. Looks like the previous owner had good taste. That is if the dealer is being honest though.

I remember your other thread when you posted this add asking about the car. You have a Stage 2 car with a lot of suspension work. I honestly do not know why people brought up tuning issues.
