Got here a few weeks ago, living mainland in NAF Atsugi! I've been looking for a GC8 STI for a little and haven't really seen anything in the area... Heading to a car auction on Friday... Hope I see something. If anyone is selling one let me know

You can also look for cars here. Even though I live on Okinawa, I bought my gc8 STI RA from Gumma prefecture. An hour north of Tokyo. I had it shipped to me for additional $1000. Since you are on the mainland Japan... Shipping should be much cheaper.

You can narrow down to the close to exact car you want.. Get a ver 5 or 6 1999 STI RA limited or Ver 5 or 6 1999 or 2000 STI type R. They are fun cars to drive. Reasons why I said that is because the will have DCCD 5 speed trannies, 4 pot / 2 pot brake calipers, STI RA has roof vents(some type R have roof vents also). Don't just jump on the first STI you see... Shop around.

It's probably the best time to buy a car in Japan. Yen to the dollar isn't to bad. Almost 90 yen to the dollar

Be patient and look for a good one. If I were you.. You should look into getting a GDB STI... 04 and up!

When I first got here I emailed goo about the blue and white one and they never got back to me, I really like the RA and I'm about to call them to see if it's still available... I've been looking at another one, a 98 with 74k on it for about 3500 American... The guys going to get back to me tomorrow so hopefully ill get a chance to check that one out. The RA is more ideal though and I really like the DCCD and the 4/2 pot setup, it's also in the same prefecture.

Normally, just call... Have some Japanese or if you can speak Japanese, then call. It's the best way to try to get these cars.

I would still go after the Ver 5/6 STI RA... The gear ratio in the tranny is really nice... Driving through the mountains is really fun. Trust me! I had that tranny in my STI RA and it was awesome. But I had a 6spd sitting in a box in my back yard so, I sold the tranny and installed the 6spd.
