Question Need a local lobotomy/ headlight shop(halpz!!!)

So this jdm sti headlight thing has just gone sour.

So I have the oem jdm hid 2001 sti headlights.
My bulb burned out and now its a ****ing nightmare finding this stupid bulb.
The autozone guy didnt even know wtf d2s was and kept showing me the effin usdm headlight assembly. I really wanted to punch this guy it was like being in Home Depot.
ALSO: i dont need a freakin retrofit. has anyone had this problem?
I checked the electrical hid and headlight thread and again: no new info.

Not to mention NOT ONE seller on EBAY has a lightbulb like this with this stupid rubber grommet.

I just need a d2s 5000k-70000k 35 w pigtailed bulb. Anyone recomend a shop around here that deals with this?

THANKS!!

No i have no clue how to use google.

I was going mostly by what the hid thread said that the jdm low beams are ds2. The irony of this is when you search on google for jdm subaru sti bulbs replacement you get alot of empty threads.

HOWEVER
I am starting to believe these are somehow h1 bulbs?
IDK im not a hid bulb expert.
I was expecting a plug n play delio.
EVen looking at the h1 bulbs the clips are either completely different, or one of the clips looks off. I suppose I could splice.

Yo Hoff thx for the link bud but dayum dude clear your searches before posting links....lmao

Yea yeah sure sure we all know the truth is you're tuning buisness is bankrupt so you're running an s&m modeling agency out of your van!!!

I keed I keed!!

Anyways back on topic I determined these hid bulbs to be h1 and we will see if I am correct. I bought a pair of h1 5000k hid bulbs with pigtail and what appears to be the exact rubber grommet and connectors.
We will see. No effin way im paying 1300 $ for some "genuine" bulbs.
If these work ill order the morimotos as they have great reviews as far as these go.
Ill post back with update maybe pics when they come in.

Are you sure those are OEM hids and not just an aftermarket HID kit dropped in?

The dust/seal covers on OEM hids look like so:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2280761

with no rubber grommet coming out from them.

Is this similar to yours:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2149976

Looks like the same aftermarket drop in kit that people use everywhere with the silver ballast box and black ignitor box too. I know my H1 kit looked exactly the same when I had the "bright" idea of getting aftermarket hids a couple years ago. Which turned out to be garbage afterall and I needed new headlight assemblies.

Well thst sucks. Apparently eurospeck hit it on the nose. What I have are drop in hid on jdm projector lights.
Well guess I got taken a bit.
Ill just try and pretend the guy who sold these to me didnt know.
Now onto my new problem.
I installed new hid bulbs and they keep turning off...dafuq.
How is it possible I ran the drop ins i pulled out with no relay and now I need them?
Is this possibly due to the wattage of the bulb?
Should I invest in a better quality bulb?
Sigh....why do people do stupid crap like ruin nice oem lights with crappy ebay hids.
So yeah great now I have no working head lights...

I ran a Prolumen drop in hid 5000K H1 kit for a couple years on my 9-2X, until one day one light started flickering and I didn't think much of it. At the time, it was the most failure proof and most expensive kit ($350+) at the time. Next morning it started smoking in the garage and was stoked on catching this and putting it out before dealing with a full on engine fire on I90 on my commute to school.

It melted most of the headlight wiring leaving me with a $900+ repair requiring the purchase of two complete new headlight assemblies.

If I was you, I wouldn't mess with any of the drop in kits, they are all garbage. If nothing is spliced into the stock wiring, I would just go back to halogen bulbs and upgrade them to the hi-efficiency +90 or +100 kind. That's what I'm running now.

Or if you have the money, do a TSX projector retrofit and run xenons properly that way.

thats great and all buuuuut the thing is...I DIDN'T PUT THIS IN.
THE ****ER that sold this to me said this was genuine jdm hid.
SOmetimes i gotta pinch myself to make sure im not in some three stooges episode my life keeps seeming to be.

But yeah what now i gotta "reconvert" me "ghettto converted" lights back to oem?
not bloody likely.
So its not like im completely unskillerized, and decided to investigate further.
Did you know that subaru did not use bmw hella ballasts for their headlights?
WELL THEY DIDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THis is unbelieveable, I was gonna test the ballasts and noticed something funny. They are hella ballasts? WTH.
BIG
HEAVY
SIGH

SO yeah I have bmw hella ballasts with drop in hid.
At this point im so pissed i dont even gas anymore.
I just need headlights to get on with my life.
Of course like A dumbass, since i bough these awesome "genuine jdm hid headlights" I sold my headlights!
wth would i need my oem headlights for?
yes sold, now owned by self and noobdom.
if I had 6 bills id just drop it for the real deal, but right now I need to see at night.
I need to get my headlights running NOW and install real ones later.
I swear im just gonna put some everready flashlights in there and say **** it.

Just get some replacement H1 HID bulbs. ta-da. All the "kits" use the same plugs on them, with rebased D2S bulbs.

Hey thanks for the input man!
I did some more research and seems the moris are the prefered inexpensive brand. I used my multi meter last night and tested the ballast and it turned out to be bad.
I cannot believe I am doing this, as I am so against this type of ghetto mod, but i ordered a new drop in hid kit.
Maybe I should order a neon under body lighting kit as well.
Sigh...
I am so against these types of mods.
I just hope my hids aren't shakin up and down while im driving and annoying every one.
So yeah I should have the new kit in a few days. I think theyre morimotos.
Im just gonna mount a giant spotlight on my roof rack and be done with it.
Or this:

Now dats what im talkin bout **** this hid crap!

I don't think you can test a ballast with a multimeter. These days they're an integrated ignitor/ballast, so when you turn them on they pulse with a higher wattage/voltage to start the spark, and once they sense the dropoff of resistance (because now the gap has been jumped, and it takes less power to keep it going than to start it) then it'll back down to regulate the current with the actual ballast.

So just hooking up a multimeter would probably cause it to try igniting endlessly because it doesn't have any load on it to actually ignite. A better option would be to remove your good bulb, plug it into the questionable ballast, and see what happens.

Just an idea

Well heres an update.
Looks like eurospek hit it on the nose.

What I have folks is a set of modified JDM projector NON hid headlights.
I compared other pics and yes these are genuine jdm scoob lights but in non hid form that someone butchered. NO wonder I had such a hard time, and now i know why the wires were back ward when I first did the install.
So in case any one wants to know this is exactly how the back of your JDM HID bugeyes should look:

Not THIS:

SO anyways as I said after I tested the ballast and found it was bad ( yes you can test ballasts ) I replaced the hellas with ebays ballast setup from morimoto. SO of course now my lights are flickering and next thing you know the pas. side dont wanna stay lit.
Long story short I installed a relay on BOTH lights and now every thing works fine except the spectrum on my lights is more like 6k even tough it says 5k.
Anyways I hope in w few months once a i take care of my more important things on my car Ill pick up the real deal.
Thanks for the info eurospek.
