Really not rated very well, I was going to get them based on cost, then I changed my mind. It is only about 150 more for much better tires

I'm only saying that because I am familiar with my friends with 15's running them for cost.. I've only ever ran Blizzaks before.. And those were on a FWD car.. With this AWD, I was ok with the factory Yoko's, but I'd say even just some GOOD all seasons would be better, as the Yoko's sucked.. lol I have some Hankook V4's currently, but those will be replaced before Winter..

Agreed, that's what I'm using now as Blizzak WS60s are what came pre-installed on the old WRX wheels I use in the winter time.

However, when I replace them in the future, I'll probably go with General Altimax Arctics, which I've also used in the past with great success.

How much tread and siping is left on those tires?

I haven't taken exact measurements. But they only had about 5k miles on them when I bought them, and I expect them to last me several more years.

I was just wondering because once your down to 6/32" they are no longer considered snow tires

Keep in mind that another difference with snow tires is that the rubber is softer than with all-season tires. Below 40 degrees F, the rubber used in all-season tires gets very hard, and traction is compromised. This isn't true with snow tire rubber. So even if the Blizzak tires wear through the sipes, the rubber will still be soft, providing better traction than an all-season tire.

I'm still impressed with your video- lol. Impressive traction, but also impressive you took off on that hill on snow with a manual and didn't spin a tire :-)
That's what most people I have shown it to bragged about

Thanks. I had to rev the engine pretty high to keep from stalling, but I thought that was acceptable under the circumstances (steep hill plus a car loaded with 4 adults).

Your video was one of the clips I watched that helped me decide on the impreza. I'd be curious to see the same vid with all seasons. Thanks it was very helpful!

I'm excited for winter for the first time in years.. I have never driven AWD before buying this car, let alone drive it in the snow.. I'm used to driving an RSX-S in the snow and a K24 swapped integra, both of which have a close geared 6 speed and barely any traction to the front wheels. Will be a big difference as I never got stuck in those cars.. It definitely made me a good snow driver

I don't mind MY driving in the snow it's the other idiots out there that bother me. Karma got an escalade last year, came roaring by in a snow storm on the interstate doing 70 or so when everyone else was going 30. Next time I saw it it was in the grass median on it's side.
In two more weeks I will need to leave for work earlier to beat the yellow tide.

Tires ordered today at costco! 544.02 for Michelin X-Ice 3 in 205/60r16. with the current Michelin rebate (it was instant at Costco) I could have got them installed somewhere else for i figure about 520.00, but the ability to have them warrantied locally and much easier than through tirerack seemed to be worth the extra 24.00 to me. The guy i talked to said that all their equipment is brand new and has plastic over the metal pieces to protect rims, and since mine are painted I'm hoping he is correct

should be mounted in about a week (not going on until Thanksgiving I hope)

When winter comes, let us know how you like them. flyboy. If they're as good as the Xi2, you'll be happy. Costco's post-sale support is great too.

thanks, costco has only been open here for 11 months, but we no longer have a Sam's membership

oh, and from tirerack
Quote:
At first glance, the new X-Ice Xi3 looks very similar to its predecessor, which isn't a bad thing given that the X-Ice Xi2 is currently ranked number one in our survey results for Studless Ice & Snow tires. One can also see the slightly updated tread pattern features smaller tread blocks in the two center ribs to offer more biting edges on snow- and ice-covered roads. There are also more lateral grooves in the shoulders of the tire to further help with snow and slush traction, as well as aid in water evacuation. Given these changes and Michelin's reputation for improving newer generations of their tires, the X-Ice Xi3 should be even better than the class-leading X-Ice Xi2! - See more at: http://blog.tirerack.com/blog/make-d....gwvOv1QS.dpuf

OH MAN!!! I cant wait for the snow!!!! Was caught in the central Arkansas snow storm and the Missouri snow last year. Loved it and plowed it with the front of my impreza. although, im not going to lie, plowing 8 inches of snow with 5.9 inches ground clearance did sound a little nasty as some of the frozen dense snow smacked underneath the car. not to mention i lost the air damn on my passenger side with the foglight cover.
