Thumbs up 2008 Subaru Impreza Hatch Front/Rear Door Panel Removal

I just found a PDF file that shows how to do this with great detail. The only thing is I'm not sure of the best way to share it.

***EDIT***..... I found one option for the PDF file.

Here is a link for the file.

Step 1: Open small cover & remove screw.

Step 2: Open small cover and remove screw.

Step 3: Use a screw driver with a wide edge (keeping it horizontal) in this slot to pry up and start to release the clips. Once started finish removing by hand.

Step 4: Then remove these two screws, and disconnect the power windows/locks harness(s)

Step 5: Then carefully pull out & back toward the window to release the tweeter near the mirror.

(This is where the clip is that you are removing)

Step 6:Now just pull the door panel firm but gently up and you should see this.

(I was surprised at what I found when I got the door panel off. I was suspecting that I would find a paper plate and a rubber band. But, instead I found a 2-way!)

Step 8: There are three screws holding the speaker in the door, remove these.

Step 8: If you are going to be changing your speakers and purchased new models that can use the factory mounting plate, then you will need the remove the six screws that are holding the original speaker

Once you've done one door the rest should be simple. The rear doors are very similar to the front doors. The only difference is that before you pull the door panel up and off you will need to carefully remove the triangular piece of plastic from the area rite above the door panel towards the back of the car. It is held on by one clip as well.

I found that you need to be a little bit more careful on these than anything else.

Awesome post, I held off on upgrading my speakers this past weekend because I was dreading what would be required...but this tells me it's not so bad after all.

Good lord door panel removal is so easy on pretty much all modern cars.

The steps for ALL cars are basically the same:

Locate and remove all screws in the door.
Remove any parts of the door that were held on by those screws.
Look again for new screws revealed by the last step, remove them.
Pop off the door panel starting at the bottom.
Lift the door panel off the top lip once all the plastic clips have been popped out.
If you need access to the window regulator, carefully remove the vapor barrier and any crash foam in the door.

Reverse to install.

I will echo about being careful with the rear triangle sail panels. You have to pull them straight out, or the clip will break. I broke the first one I removed and had to order a replacement panel @ $7 from subaruonlineparts.

The other issue I had was removing the screw cover in the armrests. I found an eyeglass screwdriver was able to pry the cover up from the front cover of the cover.

This procedure is missing just one detail, unhooking the lock and handle cables, you can't take the interior panel off and set it aside without it.

It is similar to other cars if you have done it before. When you pull the trim panel away from the door, the cables will be accessible from the back.

Right up close to the lock switch and handle backside, there is a little plastic clip that you can snap away, I think they are green or yellow, you can see they are holding the cable end down. Once you snap the clip off the cable and pivot it out of the way, you can pull the cable up and out of its seat, disconnecting it from the door trim.

Fantastic thread!

Save yourself the trouble and take it to the dealer for warranty repair.
I went in for oil change, mentioned the rattle in the right door, and it came back nice and quiet.
One reason for a new car is the new car warranty, use it.

Exactly. I too had a rattle in the front passenger door. As easy as it is for a non-tech to remove the panel, the guys in the service department at the dealership can do it even faster.

You paid for the new car warranty, why not use it.

I found the part through a the Subaru eStore (basically local dealer that has an eStore through Subaru). Pretty easy to navigate. Though its for 08-10' its prb the right part. I'll just wait for confirmation tho.

Problem: Annoying rattle

Cause: Two white plastic "boxes" inside the bottom portion of both door panels.

Solution: Remove them.
