Default Mt. Washington Meet

I did a search of the forum and came up with no real meets.

I propose a meet at the TOP of Mt. Washington. The tallest mountain on the east coast!

I drove up it two years ago in my VW and it was a great drive and the summit is amazing.

The auto road (road to the summit) has car club packages. Includes private access to the road at dawn or dusk and a BBQ.

What say you all? Should we plan a trip? I would be more than happy to coordinate it. We just need a nice turn out.

Although it is a good drive for most of us, it is worth it.

I second the notion, though I don't have my car yet, but I'm also pretty sure the road isn't open yet and that ill will indeed have the car when it's open. It's a beautiful day up here in NH I can see the mountain wonderfully today. I hate to burst your bubble, but it's not the tallest mountain on the east coast, it is the tallest in the north east though.

I started organizing this once. I have all the contact info you will need to set it up. The problem I ran into personally was the deposit they required for the club package. I didn't want to front the money in case the plans fell through or there wasn't enough serious interest (its not cheap). They require a deposit to set the date, but people won't commit to going until you set a date. It's a catch 22. I may be interested in helping out if you move forward with this, but just an FYI... they are probably booked on weekends through the end of the summer already and it's unlikely you will get the turnout you need to cover costs on a weekday.

I'm looking at the mountain out my window right now. It's a pretty sketchy road once you get up high where it's dirt. It's very narrow and the edge drops off hundreds of feet in some places. There are turnoffs on the way down for cars to cool their brakes. No one drives fast on it...well, except for:

I'm down for a Mt. Washington meet!

I also have a BBQ location on Lake Winnipesaukee a little over an hour south of the mountain if we wanted some kind of nesic mt washington party.

Default Ok!

I am thinking early fall (Mid Sept) for the date. Long enough away so we can build a good turn out.

I will reach out to people at the auto road to see what's available.

I will report back what I know as soon as I do.

In the mean time, SPREAD the word! If you want to go, say so!

We can work out the money situation. It should not be to much per person.

We can do a one time mountain meet.

Or, I was thinking we could rent out an entire cabin area and have a Suba-Fest weekend.

Yea, it can get pricey, but what a time it could be.

Lots to discuss.

The day of the mountain climb will be a Saturday.

First thing first:

I suggest early AM Saturday of the Global Rallycross Championship race at NHMS. Last year it was in July.

Less of this until everything is solidified. If you build it, they will come. I promise.

Let's not turn this into another Petco, Police Station, Building 19 meet.

The person you need to contact is Mary Power. She is the group sales director for the auto road. Her phone number is 603-466-3988. Or her email is mary@mt-washington.com. Here is the email I got from her last year when I was going to reserve a specific date for my attempt at a Mt. Washington Subaru meet:

Quote:
Hi Brandon, I will pencil in the date. Just so that you know to totally reserve that date I will need to send you a contract with a deposit request. In the mean time if someone calls to inquire about July 28th – I will contact you first.

If you are going to do an evening two hour tour – the cost is $25.30 per person. This is an after hours tour soyou will have the summit to yourselves. Most likely you will experience down bound traffic on your way up butno traffic on your way down. If you are going to drive yourselves during our normal operating hours the cost is $25.00 for car and driver, $8.00 for each additional passenger ages 13 and up and for children between the agesof 5-12 it’s a $6.00 charge. How many cars/people do you think you will have? Thank you so much – I’m looking forward to working with you.

P.S. Everyone knows they can’t drive like Travis – right!
So, for a closed road trip (which is what would be required for a group, so it doesn't turn into a cluster), it would be $25/person, including passengers in the cars.

The email above was from October and the earliest date they had at that point was the end of July. So I would contact her ASAP if you're looking to do it this season.

Again, I would certainly be interested in helping set this up as I have already tried it once. PM me if you want help!!

What is the weather like on the top in mid sept? I know there is snow months earlier than the rest of the region, something to consider if the date were to be set for that time.

It'd be a shame for some come up on summer tires, only to hit snow and ice half way up the mountain. Also consider that peak tourist season for the area is mid sept....traffic will be heavy and the dumb come out in packs. Although spirited driving isn't advised on the mountain...everyone always has fun on the roads getting there.

Not knocking the idea, it's a good one and I'm going to watch this. Might tie it into an event some of us do in the fall anyway.
