Default Problem while driving

Hi, this just happened today 12/26/12. I'm on my way to work and all of a sudden I hear this grinding noise, then I kind panicked (who wouldn't). I shifted up and applied pressure on the throttle. The noise kinda went away then it comes back then goes away after that. The noise feels like its coming from where the shifter is. Or on the firewall. It's hard to pin point it. My only suggestion is

- transmission
- rear diff
- shaft U joint

I used the lift in my shop and had the car looked under. I didn't see any wierd problems... So hear me out

Tony

Check the u-joint on the rear driveshaft at the trans end. Mine failed and made an intermittent grinding noise that eventually turned into a vibration at low and high speeds.

Once you get the driveshaft out you should be able to feel the bad u-joint.
