Default 100 acre wood 2013

Hello,

I've been to 1 other race (stpr) had a great time, Im in pittsburgh, so I am looking for information on 100 acre wood. I know from stpr, that you cannot see every stage, so what are the best stages to see? I will be there for both days + part of thursday. Any tips hints, etc. would help.

Volunteer to marshal a stage! It's the best seat in the house. Well, 2nd best...the best seat is in the driver's seat

I am planning to at stpr, i know that area and feel a little more comfortable with the area. After getting to 100 acre i will probably do it in 2014 .

But do you know good spectator points that are good?

I haven't run 100AW yet. Even at the events I have run, I wouldn't be any help. I am just not paying attention to those things.

This will be our 5th year to go to 100 Acre Wood--always a lot of fun. We marshalled last year and hope to do that again this year. It changes the event (harder to make service stages and the Parc Expose's) but you do see great new locations on the stages and meet a lot of interesting people. They have fantastic roads to run on, and the conditions vary so much year-to-year, that it's kind of a different race each time.

The spectator points change sometimes, just as the stages do, but they usually have one at a hairpin that provides a great perspective. There is a "fast downhill into a corner" point near Potosi that really lets you hear the engines roar, and see the cars at good speed, but I like the hard corners better. Night stages are interesting too, depending on the visibility.

If you'd done the Rally America thing at other races, then you already know how open the teams are to the public, and the great "community" vibe it has. 100 Acre Wood does that in spades.

Bring your winter gear, though. It can be cold in February in southern Missouri! The site is still pretty thin, but the information will come out soon.

I happen to live ~ a mile from stage lol. Most of the spectator points are pretty good. If you volunteer you get free food and beer on saturday though There's a "super special" stage in potosi thats normally fun to watch.

stuff like that

Thanks guys for the help. I know I know volunteer. (oh hmm Free Beer??? Can I sign up 2 times?? lol) Anyway I will probably do this next year, I just need to get familiar with the area first this year. Defiantly volunteering at STPR in 2013.

dilAY571: I have been looking at every youtube video from last year that I can find, it all looks really cool.

Monkey_Boy: Thanks for the input, I have been reading everything that I can about rally america, rallying, and the great folks that are part of it (both participants and organizers). Rally racing is something I have always been interested in, but it has made a larger impact finding STPR close to where I live and being able to attend. It just makes it that much more real, and like you said the people are great to interact with. I do understand that stages change from year to year, I am just getting a guess of where to go.

Thanks again, I got more questions, Ill post later.

LOL, yeah, that happens. They actually did name the race for the wood in the Pooh books. When you get here, you'll see why. It is, literally, racing through hill's covered with forest. You get he occasional field or farm, but it's anti-lag thunder and waste-gate screams echoing through the trees for the most part.

I'm sure you've seen these, but the pro-pics that Subaru Rally puts up are among the best. They capture the feel of the rally pretty well:

I need to go sort out the volunteer bit for this year....

Just don't try to find any Winnie the Pooh souvenirs while you're there!. My wife told me to not comeback without any. But we found none. I think probably an Disney licensing thing.

No Pooh. Lots of mud, dust, and sometimes snow, but no Pooh. Salem is the other good lodging option--the first Parc Expose and the awards ceremony are there. The stages themselves are all over. They usually do a "Service" point at Viburnum and the second service at Potosi near where the "special stage" on Saturday is held.

We usually stay in Rolla since I have friends there (I am a UM-Rolla Alum) and because we get a jump on getting back on the road to KC on Sunday morning.

They don't generally start posting details for another couple of weeks; just keep watching the site. I am feeling the need to break out Dirt3 with all of this rally talk!

Im staying near steelville, looked kinda centralized to most stages, by looking at last years program.

Are there any good hangouts that participants go? Or if there are any places where subie owners tend to migrate to?

Dirt 3? Lol, my thoughts exactly.

Rally WV in July is also very close to you, not just STPR.

Salem is a good place to stay if you want to be around the action. There will be a non-stop stream of rally cars, as well as tons of them parked at your hotel room. Rolla is the other good bet (also a Rolla alum), just be ready for a good 30-45 minute drive to get somewhere. Great roads to drive on as well.

Viburnum and Steelville hardly have any lodging (if any at all?) and Potosi is way out there if you want to catch parc expose in Steelville and Salem.

This will be my third year racing at 100AW, second year driving. I will be in a rainbow colored Legacy shooting for a podium in Open Light.

There's a distinct possibility that I will be there crewing for the 298 open class car.

There is a distinct possibility I'll be staying in Salem this year instead of Rolla. It will be nice not having to make that drive back to Rolla each night.
