Default Install + Review -2012 STI SMY Performance Rear Lips (Hatch)

So I finally made my mind up on what I wanted to do as far as rear lips/spats went. I've done my fair share of digging and reading reviews so I bit the bullet. I didn't want something that would be fragile and fall apart. After receiving them, they were everything I was looking for. They are very stout with enough flex to handle daily use. Yes I know carbon is nice yada yada but I wanted to give a new company a chance. I've seen mixed reviews for SMY Performance but there's no way I will be shelling out 500+ for rear lips/spats. So I went out on a limb and figured I can take a $100 dollar loss if they suck. Which they don't.

Here is the direct link to said parts:
http://www.smyperformance.com/2008-2...ips-hatch.html

For $100.00 and 10 minutes of time out of my day I ended up with pure satisfaction. On with the pictures.

This is what was in the box

nicely wrapped and protected well

Finish on the product wasn't the nicest but at $100 I will have money left over to wrap them. Most of which you cant see once installed.

Installation Tools Needed:
Flat head screwdriver for the ever so stuck on push clips
Philips screwdriver

Difficulty Level: Easy

Time Consumption: 10 minutes at best

Installation:

Step 1: Remove the two push clips from the factory holes located on the bottom end of the bumper. Mine were a bit of a PITA because they have had time to seize themselves from rain and dirt.

Step 2: Once removed, I took the time to break them apart to make my life easy when it came to putting them back in. I lined up the rear lip to make sure all the holes matched up. there will be 4 total to secure the lip.

Step 3: I put both clips in the lip, then lined the two on the bumper before pushing the clips in. The holes that come predrilled are very exact and lined up extremely well. SMY provides you with 4 clips. 2 push style and 2 screw type.

Step 4: Take two, one of each style and install them into the two predrilled factory holes in your bumper.

Step 5: Stand back and enjoy the simplicity of a subtle part that instantly changes the cars' tone.

To give you an idea of how flush the sit with the exhaust finishers

Very small gap that from 2 feet away cant be seen

Both installed and done

Now I know this isn't for everyone. Some will love it, like it and probably hate it or feel kinda...meh about it. I love it. I also wanted to do this because I'm sure there is someone else who may be leery about ordering these or cant make there mind up. So hopefully this will help someone out there. SMY was quick to ship, provided a tracker number and they Yanev was cool to talk to. Overall im very pleased with the finished product.

Please keep the ugly remarks to yourself. Thanks for looking

So I got bored and decided these would match the spats better. So I used some 600 grit sandpaper I had laying around, sanded, then hit them with some rattle can VHT caliper paint. Flat black was the color of choice.

And 45 min later after baking with my small office desk heater.

I like the look better now.
