I understand the Al won with an 11.8 at like 124! That trap speed is insane! Congrats.

Awesome! Congrats Al!

Maybe there will be a few less doubters of his dyno plots with a 124 mph trap! Has anyone else in the US even come close to that on a street driven WRX?

Talking

Well it was a blast and I didn't break anything so thats good. I was very pleased with my car to say the least. Tward the end of the day and after cooling down the IC, I made 3 passes in a row that were almost identical. The best being 13.53 @ 100mph! I'd say not too bad for just an uppie, Joe-P and Cat-Back. As for others it was a "Shootout" right to the end between Al and a TurboXs car with Al winning but I'll let them tell the stories because we all know that Al likes to talk.

All right, since this is the official result thread, and no records were set, I guess the racers won't mind

Al did win with an 11.883 at 124.27 but that doesn't begin to tell the whole story of the shootout.

Al started the day running mid to upper 13s, doing most of his tuning, while Phil from TXS practically came out of the box running high 12s with some problems with the Nitrous IIRC. Once things were sorted with both cars, THAT's when the shootout started getting good.

Phil would run a 12.75, Al 12.73 or close to those numbers. Then from there, each run got a little better with each guy bettering the other by only a few hundreths.

We had the rack until 4:30 and were allowed to run right up, but only until that time. With about 8 minutes left, Phil comes out and nails a 12.07 at near 117mph and the crowd goes nuts with Al running frantically, getting more fuel in the car and hurrying back to the line. About 5 minutes left Al lines up, and while his launch didn't look like anything super spectacular, much less dramatic then most of them with all four wheels fighting for every last ounce of traction, the tower new it was going to be good by announcing all his times and mph throughout the run. Then it shows:

11.883@124.27 ...And again the crowd erupts and TXS hurry to get Phil back to the line. But it wasn't meant to be as Phil's car had to be heating up from some back to back runs as well as his Nitrous not up to optimal conditions. He got two more runs off in about two minutes, but it was an extremely hard fought loss.

Will post a lot more details later on.
This is just to suffice those interested right now.

I'm like right now. I wish I had a car that ran 11's. Or at least the money.

Seeing as how his next closest competitor (who was reported a massive 7 mph slower) was spraying, if Al ran that time with or without the juice .....

congrats Al. but is if the vishnu stage 3 runs 11's without the STi engine then Al wasted a butt load of money.

I love bashing Al, I really do, but if he wasn't on the juice holy %%$#ing crap!!! Thats killer, and even though I don't want to give him any credit, I have to I'd like Al to drop a 75 shot into that WRX of his and get into the 10's...

Congrats man, thats one hell of a machine you got there...

One thing I can say is how both Phil and Al's car represent two different arena's of Subaru tuning.

On one hand you have Phil and the TXS crew basically running a kit in which they sell every day(plus a shot of N20 and a few hours of tuning). It's a rolling showcase for their business, and something which the average WRX owner can duplicate litteraly in a matter of hours(besides the dyno tuning). In Phil's car's current set-up, as he said, it's probably approaching the limit of available power he can get from it(which is nothing to shake a stick at)

Al's car on the other hand is probably the future of WRX tuning at the drag strip. Custom pipe work, big turbo, external wastegate, custom exhaust, 25+ psi, etc. Much more familiar with what you see on 9 and 10 second DSM's. Don't want to speak for Al, but for one of his first times out with this combo, trying to tune on the way down and at the track, whether he was spraying or not, that's an impressive time and what I feel is probably just the tip of the iceberg with this set-up as well as other similar set-ups to come out in the future from others.

You cannot compare Al's car to any other "kit" car for the simple reason being that the two cars will attract two different customers. I think the "kit" guys are happy with bolting on their kit, going out and running 11's or 12's, and calling it a day, where as running 11's with a set-up like Al's is just the beginning for that type of customer.

Either way, think about this. Two of the quickest and fastest WRXs in the country, both were driven to the track from hundreds of miles away, ran hard all day long not missing a beat, and both being able to be driven home. THAT to me is what Hi performance Subarus are all about.

There were numerous "personal bests" by a few as well. We had I think 7 cars into the 12s and Al's into the 11's, which is a good day for any club get-together, much less a Subaru club

And BTW, I do not take part in the "I love Al/ I hate Al" debates that happen daily, but I will say this. Al busted his butt all day on that car. Putting it up on jacks, crawling under ripping exhausts off, putting it back on, spending time tuning, running around frantically getting fuel with only minutes to go, all basically by himself and all the time doing so with a smile on his face and willing to talk to anyone who asked. Not saying he was the only one doing it, because everyone was working hard on their cars all day long, from the TXS crew right down to the normally aspirated crew. But, whether Al is filthy rich or not, I think hard work played a big part in his times today.

Nice work Al. I can't wait to see what other tricks you have up your sleeve. Don't quit, I've been having a great time following this whole rivalry for the past year.
