Have you tried talking him into another car? Unless he's a petroleum engie that sounds like a substantial amount of money dumped into a regular consumer car.

not record setting but in six months of ownership:

Cobb AP, Ultimate racing catback, invidia downpope, KB STS + bushings, knob, Konis and RCE yellows, perrin SB's f/r and KB endlinks, horns, RA mud flaps, tail light overlays, window tint.

so i think about 4k this year. next year will be header TMIC and a protune.

Well about 30k for the limited and another 7k in mods based on my list.

At that pace would have been cheap to by STi

Overall, I'm very happy with my WRX Limited :-)

Uh hell yeah I'd jump on that. Nice find! I'm in no hurry to go stage 2 just yet as I'm enjoying stage one. But I agree, if something like that pops up I'd be going stage 2 in a heartbeat.

$12-13k... that includes buying the car ($8.5k), mods/maintance including the timing belt and diffs/tranny fluid ($2k), and gas/insurance ($2k). This has all been since July.

And I sold my old '98 OBS for $3200. I put approximately $2k in gas in that too over the first half the year.

Overall, not too shabby considering that was buying the WRX in cash. Saved up since I started my first full time job Now the rest goes into my IRA and other savings.

...... and yes, I'm an accountant.. heh.

This year was very expensive..easily over $20,000 this season..new motor and supporting mods being responsible for the majority of the expense! I figured I better get this racing bug out of my system now, before I settle down and do something stupid like have kids or get married I literally work to put a roof over my head and to put this car on track..oh yea and food. What a life haha!

This scares the hell out of me. I am not at $150,000 by any means but I have dropped dumb amounts of money in this car..and I'll be the first to admit my car is nowhere near where it could have been with what I have put into it. It has been a hell of a learning experience along the way though.

I often wonder when I will draw the line and quit dumping so much god damn money in a freakin econobox subaru though.. The way I see it now, I'm in too deep to ever recoup what I've sunk into this and in my eyes the car is still far from complete. Not really sure what happens when I do end up stuffing this on track. I guess hope the majority of components survive to be swapped over to a new shell or parted out? C5 ZO6 will prob be my next platform..

"I'm in too deep to ever recoup what I've sunk into this and in my eyes the car is still far from complete"., I have to agree 1000000% .. Dude I paid 6500 for my bugeye. Between repairs and stage 2, accidents, I'm well over 7,000$ just in investments. People are like oh just sell it, cars a bomb, u can get something good for cheap.. Yes we can do that but all that money involved and dumped we won't even make that back, along with the price we paid for the car in the deal

I've spent roughly $13,000 this year, not including some of the money I recouped selling old parts. Buying rare/quality parts gets pricey. Still have another $5-7 before its done.

Uncle scotty, I'm well aware..which makes this even worse.. Road course car! **** an f-body, been there done that. Straight line does nothing for me. Z06 is prob the smartest move for what I want to do, which is get around a road course as fast as humanly possible.

Despite what a massive pos this car is for track duty, it is a nice feeling to be keeping up on some of the best tracks in the country in a 4 door econo-box, with said Z06's and other cars that were built with racing in mind from the get go! I obviously ain't proving much though when you consider I could have had that ZO6 brand spankin' new for what has been dropped in this car...so where do you draw the line? Wait to wreck it or part it out..either way that money is never coming back, so the wisest choice I can make is to just ****ing enjoy the car as much as I can until I'm in a position that allows me to move up to another platform and able to prep for track. It's all relative at this point as my car is not my daily driver. Happy holidays!
