Default Fire in Palmer

Two very dear friends of mine house burned down last night around 5:30. There has been an account setup at mat valley federal credit union on their behalf #141695 the account is under Hayley Moore. Any donations will be greatly appreciated, they lost basically everything. No on was in the house when it happened except for the pets. They lost the cat, and their dog Hank is at the vet still with a serious case of pneumonia from the smoke inhalation. Thank you all for your help, and please keep Sam Miller and Hayley Moore in your prayers.

Yeah it's crazy how your life can change in a blink of an eye. I'm just very thankful that they were not in the house when it exploded... it made the front page of the frontiersman I was told.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear of this.

I'm glad that they were okay, but definitely sad they lost one of their pets.

Explosion blows roof off house

PALMER — It’s been a wild few months for Roger Coffell and his neighbors in the Valley Trails Subdivision across from Palmer High School.
First, a spark from a vehicle accident touched off a wildfire that threatened the subdivision and evacuated Cedar Hills Subdivision Nov. 29.
The neighborhood was again awash in flashing lights and emergency response vehicles Monday after crews from Palmer, the Butte and Central Mat-Su Fire departments responded to an explosion and house fire on Irene Street Monday around 6 p.m.

Coffell said he was inside his house when he heard the boom and looked outside to see his neighbor’s place two doors down in flames.
“The garage door was blown clear off and laying in the street,” he said.

Palmer Fire Department Assistant Chief Todd Russell said when he arrived he saw the door in the street, flames coming through the garage roof and northerly winds were pushing the fire toward a fence and vehicle to the north.

“Figured I better call everybody,” Russell said.

Fire consumed the fence, the garage and a vehicle inside it, as well as what looked to be the ranch-style home’s main living area.
Coffell said he also saw firefighters carry a dog out of the residence and give it oxygen. As of press time Monday evening, no human injuries were reported.

Russell said the explosion and fire appear to have begun in the garage, but it was still too soon to know the cause.

Firefighters inside and outside the residence doused the last small flames that licked at the charred and smoking rafters while water from their trucks pooled in the streets and turned to ice.

Tammy Watson said an explosion shook her neighborhood, and at first she thought was just the snow on her roof sliding off.

“All I know is it rocked my house,” she said.

But when she looked out her window, flames were blowing toward her house on Auklet.

“We heard a big old boom, so I looked out the window,” Watson said. “Holy smokes, that house is on fire.”

She said she worked for five years for a lady who lived in the house and knows the furnace is in the garage.

“Thankfully the fire department is nearby,” Watson said.

See if you can get a list of household goods needed too. I am sure people have plenty to donate. Also, clothing and shoes sizes for the adults and any kids would be good as well.

Lets see what AKIC can pull together to help these folks out.

Yes please - I have a few bags of clothes and maybe some shoes I don't wear that I have sitting ready to drop off at big brother but if it's stuff they can use I'm all for re-washing it and donating it that way.

Oh my gosh guys thanks so much!!!! Yes anything will help, since they have to start over from nothing. They are currently making a list of lost items and I will be sure to keep everyone informed on things as I find out.

We might have some furniture items too that we can pass over that we don't really use.

Def get a list, and then how and where we can bring stuff to.

Mattress ranch donated a bed, a random person donated 500$ to medical bills for hank their dog. He is currently at the vet across from colony highschool. I was also informed that bob and mark perhaps have a account set up for them as well.

Where are they staying? The bed donation confuses me if they don't have a home. I hate to even think about losing one of our cats, I hope the dog recovers. I have an almost brand new microwave that's theirs if they can use it.

Currently they are staying with hayleys sister up lazy mountain. They will then be moving into a little cabin down the road from that. Its pretty much furnished from my understanding, but I'm not 100 percent sure on that. I will keep everyone posted on that. Again I cant say thanks enough.
