Default Rear window washer wiper intermittent problem

Hey all,

In my 97 impreza outback the rear window wiper now intermittently stops mid-stroke instead of returning to the proper position at the bottom of the window when I shut it off. I recently spliced the wires going to the hatch and the washer hose, it looks like they were cut by the previous owner. Any ideas? Thanks.

All the wires were cut and I respliced them and wrapped them tightly together with electrical tape. All the other rear door functions are working (power lock, rear defroster, third brake light, and wiper) but when I shut the wiper off it will stop wherever it rests, it doesn't return back to the normal position at the bottom of the window.

I'll recheck my wires maybe one or two came loose.

Rechecked the wires wiggled and tucked everything is tight and the blade still doesn't return to the bottom of the window. Where to next?

Update: I found then when I had the rear defroster on the rear blade will return to it's resting place at the bottom of the window. But it only returns with the rear defroster on.

I hate it when they stop mid-stroke.

You may want to check your wiring and make sure you put it back per the stock wiring diagram.
http://www.northursalia.com/modifica...ingdiagram.pdf

Go to Page 46 and 51. The only thing your defroster and wiper/washer have in common is power. They should be coming from different fuses and relays according to those diagrams. Sounds like you have a cross somewhere.

I would like to ask a question concerning the rear wiper on my 2005 Impreza RS. (For some reason I start new threads myself so I am tagging it this one since it pertains to rear wipers).

About a month ago my rear wiper stopped dispensing fluid. I thought that the tube was damaged, as I was still hearing the pump, but no washer fluid was coming out. I decided, just on a longshot, that mayeb the windshield washer tank wasn't full enought so I added some almost to the top. well, low and behold, it worked, the pump was spraying liquid like... well you can imagine.
Now about five days ago, the same thing happened. "Fine", I thought, "I'll just add some more liquid" Well, I added it to the top... So much it actually overflowed... oops. anyway, I key the ignition in second position, try the washer button, try it again, nothing, try it again, longer this time, still nothing!
So, is there a common failure in these rear wiper fluid systems? Could it be that the cold (it was -30 here for a week in Ottawa) damaged something, like the hose?

Thanks for all your help (I don't want to have to go to the dealer for this, as good as they are, they are still expensive, for the sake of rear-view visibility)
