Default Starting problem, a 6 month frustration

Let me break everything down for you. Id appreciate any input or advice.

I have a EJ25 swapped 98 Impreza RS.

The car has trouble starting at random times. Sometimes when I turn the key the car will start up but then die immediatly, it will do that a few times and then eventually wont crank over. If I let the car sit for 10 - 30 minutes and go back to the car it will fire right up 50% of the time. like nothing is wrong.
Battery, alternator, and starter are all getting correct voltage

Here is what I have replaced
Alternator
Battery
Possitive and negative batter cables
Starter
Fuel pump
fuel filter
spark plugs

Now when the car is running, it runs great. Absolutely no issues at all.
so knowing that it runs fine, I ruled out fuel or spark being the issue.

I was thinking it was an electrical issue do to the fact the car seems to re correct itself and start after a few minutes but was also thinking it may be an issue with the ignition starter switch and that it just wont make the connection to start at some times but will at others. But that could be completely bogus

If you have any questions or advice please post it and we'll talk about it.

Sounds like an immobilizer issue did the donor motor need one?

I purchased the car already swapped, just to make that clear.

I was thinking it was the immobilizer too for awhile.

One day I removed the passenger dash to do some wiring and I stumbled upon what I believed to be the immobilizer. (I hadnt seen one yet and wasnt sure how they were setup)

Basically how it was setup was like this:
There is this small electrical looking circle devise with wires running along the outside of it and going into another part of the harness. Inside the circular device was a subaru key with a chip in it. The key was electrical taped to hold it in the center of this device. There was also some tissue stuffed along side the key to keep it firm. I figured HAHA! all this tape and tissue is obstructing the signal. When I remove the key from the device the car wouldnt start after several attempts. So i placed the key back in the center of the device and just used a little tape to keep it firm in place. I didnt place any tape around the chip area of the key. Car started right up. But that must not have been it because a few days later I noticed I still had the same symptoms with the car not starting.

Also I have 2 subaru keys, one steal, one is a normal subaru key, neither one of the has a chip in them, just a normal key

Haha, the tissue doesnt obstruct the signal. Its an RFID chip/transmitter in the key and receiver on that ring.

Try checking your Camshaft position sensor. I had a similar issue where it would crank or click without starting, especially after long periods of driving. Car would have trouble starting but run fine once it finally got started up. I replaced the sensor and it worked right away, no more issues. Just a thought.

Hello Guys, I have still not been able to figure out what is making my car start and die at random times. And then a few minutes later it starts right up with no issues.

Some comments and input would be much appreciated here thank you!!
