You should not have any resentment against Subaru for the 08 STi issues. If you are going to post something like that you could at least give some details like what mods the car has or had: TurboXS turbo-back TurboXS intake TurboXS FMIC Mach V boost control solenoid Blouch 20G-XT turbo Deatschwerks 850cc fuel injectors ProTune Cobb AccessPort

When did I post I wanted my STI to be a 11 or 10 second car? You're so quick to badmouth, you don't fully read the posts...understandable since you're such an attention whore. ![]() |

This thread is great.
I don't hate Subaru, I dislike this watered down Subaru community. There was a time when I felt compelled to push for a mutual level of respect around here, but it was a wate of time. The same questions will continue to be asked in perpetuity and the debate of whether to help someone who hasn't discovered the "search" feature versus just answering the question, will also rage on indefinitely. Nasioc is a sinking ship that refuses to sink and the majority of us are drawn to it, for inexplicable reasons, like a car accident. ![]() |

I don't hate Subaru but I don't love Subaru either. They make average quality cars that are simple, old tech, but proven. I like my STI but it's not a car that makes me think it's an incredible machine. It doesn't wow me with handling like my EVO X did or wow me with power like my Mustang 5.0. It certainly doesn't wow me with the quality of interior or sound system that feels a decade behind the competition. It's a solid daily driver that offers sportiness, AWD traction, and seating for four and there simply aren't that many cars in the market that offer as much at the price. I don't think any car manufacturer is above criticism and Subaru has put out some pretty shoddy products over the years with terrible paint, junk interiors, the old WRX's with weak transmissions and the fragile EJ25's, etc. All manufacturers at one time or another have been guilty of putting out substandard products so it goes with the territory that there will be criticism.
I think being a fan doesn't mean you have to turn a blind eye to what's going on around you and if a poster complains that he got a bad car it's because he/she got a bad car. Doesn't mean every car is bad but it means that some will likely be unlucky owners and owners with problems usually aren't happy owners. Nobody likes to hear whiners but really there's nothing worse than the "my car is fine so you are just complaining" people that don't realize that it's easy to criticise when you aren't having the issues but tough to stay silent when you are going through tough times with your car. |

Ok, so since Festivus is nearing an end, I will aire my grivances here, as it seems fitting.
2001 2.5RS. I tracked it furiously and did brake/suspension/lightening work and a makeshift ram air intake. Track times with equal drivers were this close (picture my fingers real close) to a stock WRX on the same tires. I drove it in the winter to Blizzaks and it has seen Boston, Montreal and Ottawa on the same day. My grievance: I traded it for a POS Audi S4. The Audi was great when it wasn't self destructing. It saw the dealer's garage the exact same number of days that it saw my garage. Oh..,..and I had to bring the RS to the dealer once because they forgot to plug in the AC compressor activator during the prep. Took me an entire 3 minutes. Grrrrr.....3 minutes. 2002 Outback Limited: Wife's car. Uh....I swapped the rear brakes with the RS above. Uh....it never had any problems. Oh, wait. I had to replace the brake pads when they wore out. Damn wearing out brake pads in 70k miles!!! 2008 Outback: another of the wife's line of Outbacks. Had 2 clogged cats. 2 CLOGGED CATS!!!! Oh, wait....replaced for free under warantee. Uh....still being driven. Think, think....oh. I had to put windshield washer fluid into it last week. WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID!!!! 2008 Legacy GT Limited: I bought this sight unseen. Made the deal with my favorite dealer with the option to find, order or steal a no option car with a manual. I loved the SI drive with all the miles I put on the car, so ran well over 90% of it in I mode with 87 octane in the tank. (calculated pause while heads explode). Car got 27-28mpg summer combined and 25-26mpg combined winter. The rear LSD insured that I would get up my driveway everytime on the Dunlop Graspic snows. Sold it with 91k miles and a fellow NESIC'r bought it and emails me questions from time to time and loves the car. So all in all, I guess I have no real Subaru complaints. Nothing catastrophic has ever gone wrong. I don't mod my cars. I use 10W30 synthetic and change regularly. I think that's one of the few things Scotty and I agree on..... ![]() I don't currently drive a Subaru: (Elise, Fusion, CRX, Explorer.....the Outback is the wife's), but may soon. My son (CRX was bought for him) has come through with his grades and is upgrading. Probably a WRX. Let's see.....I'll have to get him a GFB BOV (100% atm), an intake and one of those electric turbo thingys..... |

I don't hate subaru, just the drivers sometimes.
As an example, and if you're looking for a good laugh, head on over to the private vehicle classifieds on these forums and click on any thread title that says the car has "tasteful" mods. Man do those cars look stupid. Gives me a great laugh every time ![]() |

There's a reason Subaru passed Honda this year for the best car company...

Funny stuff in here.....sorta.
![]() When I first joined, the "group" was a LOT different. ![]() Then the WRX came out and the "group" changed a LOT, and in general not in a good way. ![]() We own 2 Subaru's since new, a 1998 Legacy 2.5GT wagon and a 1999 Impreza L wagon. I bought the Legacy since it was time to replace my 1989 Toyota Camry AllTrac. I looked at a lot of cars and picked the Legacy for a number of reasons, room & AWD were biggies. My wife bought her Impreza since we had 2 small kids and a coupe (Ford Probe) was a PITA when dealing with car seats. The Impreza was partly due to my feelings on my Legacy. Go down the road a few years.......~96K miles on Legacy, leaking front & rear crank seals soaked clutch. No SOA warranty so I replaced. About 6 months later, HG leak, installed low mileage junk yard engine. That went about a year until it lost a HG. A few months ago, it dropped a valve and wiped out a head. It now has a rebuilt 2.5L from CCR. Impreza (2.2L) also lost a HG at just over 100K miles. Yes, a 2.2L. Recently it developed a rod knock, likely from running low on oil (thanks son...)I maintain both cars, do oil changes, tune-ups, etc as required. Both have suspension mods done. Mine has other work done to it as well as it had a built 2.5L NA engine. I like both cars, but am sorta pissed at some of the issues. This gives me some "right" to piss at SOA since I had not raised power levels, didn't do "clutch dumps", etc. But, I only grumble at times, it could be worse. I had issues with the Camry (but a lot were covered under warranty) but at 125K is was going to need a chuck of change to get back to "good". I had a LOT of issues with a 1984 Daytona Turbo......sold @~26K because I had had enough. A single car with 1/7 the mileage had even more issues than both Subaru's combined. Some Subaru issues are design issues. Some Subaru issues are "usage" issues. Clutch dumps on clean dry pavement is bad for ANY AWD car. This is part of the "newer crowd showing up after the WRX". I still think Subaru does a decent vehicle for the price and capability, but like anything else, they have some issues. Everything can have issues, cars, PC's, everything. I'm on a number of forums, there are n00bs as well as "old timers". Some are smart, some are smart-asses. I guess I never pissed off US since I can't remember him ever giving me crap (although this post may change that..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ) but maybe it's because I'm from the older "NA" days...shrug.As to the reason behind this thread, some peeps are haters or just like to see their name in print/on a screen. I tend to just ignore them, they will tend to go away. ![]() Happy 2013 all. ![]() |
