('93-'01) remote start/keyless entry

I have a 97 impreza L sedan automatic and am looking to purchase a remote starter with keyless entry system. It has power door locks from the factory. I am wondering if I need to purchase this by-pass module, since I don't believe the car has a factory alarm system. Can any verify that I would not need to purchase this module for the remote start to work? Thanks

Ok, what I really want to know is did my car come with a factory anti-theft/alarm system? I don't have the build sheet that came with the car, and the VIN only gives limited info. I am assuming that I don't, since it doesn't have keyless entry or anything else that tells me it came with an anti-theft/alarm system. Anybody?

Usually the dealer/MFR will add a sticker either under the hood or under the dash if you have a OEM alarm.
They will usually include "operating instructions" in the owners manual as well.

A decent (honest) alarm shop should be able to list what you need in a few minutes. They can look the car over to see what is/isn't needed.

Also, regardless of factory alarm or keyless entry, what you will/won't need is sorta determined by the make/model of alarm/remote start being used.
