Default STi V-Limited REPLICA Lip review

Ok, ok, before you jump to conclusions, I know there are plenty of threads about replica lips, but I feel that I have some good tips for people thinking about getting one and to clear the air about these lips for those who may be sketched out about them. Although it crossed my mind to create a how-to thread, I was too excited to just get it on that I didn't want to take pictures. So to clear the air about these lips, in my experience, replica lips are 100% okay. I was weary about purchasing one in the beginning because all of the negative reviews on companies like Bayson R, though that can be true, according to my experience, some people who get these lips are expecting a plug and play application, didn't spend anytime researching their options or they just don't have any patience.

So I spent a week or so looking at different lip manufacturers on eBay as you can see there are well over 30 different eBay listings for these lips. I did think about going with Bayson R, but with all the lack of support I have heard about them and how many of their lips came deformed, I wanted to stay away. So after viewing all the listings I was looking for the seller that had 1) an ample amount of sales with close to perfect feedback 2) Good price 3) and most importantly a great return policy and will stand behind their product. So I found a listing that had the lip for sale for $63, free shipping, 60-day money back guarantee, all mounting hardware, great feedback, sold many of the lips before and many other factors. I felt very confident that this seller was going to supply a quality product. I can confidently say that most of the people who buy their lips from eBay don't do as much research as I did and would just chose one of the first listings they saw and when they got bit, they complained and wrote negative feedback.

I do believe that these lips aren't 100% and sometimes do come warped, but spend your time and find a quality seller. Any who, I knew I wanted the factory look so I bought an STi V-Limited badge for my lip for $9.99 on eBay. Once again, there are many sellers of these badges, but if you look at the picture, you can see sometimes that the STi logo looks childishly painted and even altered. I found a very nice badge and when I got it, I almost believe that its factory!

So Today I got the lip, it came FedEx ground in a big rectangular box. I anxiously opened it to find the lip nicely wrapped in plastic. After all the stories I've heard, I was expecting the lip to be slightly warped and the finish to be unsightly, but none of which was the case for me. I could of just threw the lip on my car without painting it, but being a painter and already having the materials, I still painted it.

I took the lip out to my car, jacked up the car, put the car on jack stands and began mounting it. I loosely mounted it by just using the 4 push pins, then marked where I was going to drill the 9 holes for my nuts and bolts that I purchased at home depot. I drilled the holes and mounted the lip back up with the extra 9 bolts. Here came the patience part and the part everyone should expect. Like most aftermarket, these lips will need modification to your setup, I had to force the lip to get it to fit where I wanted it and used a heat gun to form it to that shape. I used the heat gun lightly, because they get extremely hot and can deform the rubber's intended look, SO BE CAUTIOUS! After that, I took it back off and hit it with 800 grit sand paper. I then sprayed a couple coats of adhesion promoter, then a couple coats of matte black bumper coating, a couple coats of matte clear, and finally 2 more coats of matte bumper coating. The matte clear was just for me to see how it would look and I ended up liking the looks of the bumper coating the best, so the clearing step wasn't necessary. After drying, I mounted it again, and used lock tite on all the nuts and bolts and used the brand new push pins. The lip did come with self-tapping screws, but I felt those would be better if left out. Then my final steps were lowering the car and applying my STi badge!

The final outcome impressed me and I give the fitment and quality a close 9.5/10. The -.5 because one side doesn't butt-up exactly flush with the fender well, but it's very minimal and practically unnoticeable, but seriously, what do you want for $63, Don't expect the real deal, enjoy that you saved almost $400! It took me from start to finish 3 hours, including driving to home depot. I'd say these eBay lips (if you take your time and find a quality seller) are a good buy for cheap! Don't expect them to need no TLC before putting them on because they do, but its not extreme. I believe I may have gone over-board with the amount of prep work I did, but now I can rest assured knowing I didn't fit the lip on there quickly and it won't easily rip off. When you actually buy one of these lips, remember this thread and the tips and you should be golden!

Wow ok well, welcome to Nasioc. Now catch your breath and slow down. Half of the population here already has a knockoff eBay lip. Looks good though.

Oh my! Where and how? Were you able to get it back from where it fell off and how bad was the damage? Sorry to hear that.

Thanks man! It's a good read if you don't have a lip, but I assume you already do.

Here are some updates and better photos.

After 6 months and 5K miles of driving, I love this lip. Honestly the BEST mod under $100 that I have! Of course since this is a lip it is subject to some beatings and that is why I love the polyurethane, it is indestructible! I have had to repaint 2 times because of the beating it takes, and that is okay with me!

To do a refinish, I take off the badge, sand it down, then wet sand to smooth out any scratches, I then repaint it and finally add a new strip of double-sided sticky tape to the badge and it looks brand new every time.

I love this thing, I can't destroy it. Do not question buying one, it is worth it. When I don't have the lip on I can't stand how it looks!

Scratches!!!

Just adhesion promoter and bumper coating paint that I bought at autozone or something. Not the best paint, but it's definitely decent
