I could never bring myself to do it. If I had my BRAT I would take on the rubicon trail in a heart beat.

As long as you're not afraid of getting really dirty, Scoobies are extremely capable.

Here are some shots of my driving on the Outer Banks:

OK, the Forester's higher up, but still. On the sand, you can easily wag the tail.

Just close the windows 'cause you kick up tons of sand, and be prepared for a major washing when you get home.

Great pics juice. But way way to clean.next time hit the water then the beach and get some sand on it.
Did you ride on the beach? If you did make sure you clean under the car well. You may have to flush the area around the brakes for awhile to get all the sand out of before it causes any bearing or rotor damage.

Yes, I hit some water and there's plenty of sand underneath.

I actually rinsed the brakes each day with water.

When I got home I used a 1300psi pressure washer to do the whole thing, including the undercarriage.

But guess what? We crawled under and there is, uh, plenty of evidence of my little foray. Mostly on the top surfaces of heat shields and the exhaust.

I'll have to wash it again, this time up on ramps so I have better access to the underside.

Like I said, they're capable and fun to play, but be ready for a good wash.
