Ok, so my insurance sucks. I had bumper damage (which needs to be replaced and painted) inner and outer tie rods bent lower control arm damage and a bad wheel bearing. They have me an estimate for ALL Of this including parts and labor.. 417$ dollars. Needless to say I cancelled the claim because my deductible is 500... So my question is

What is your insurance company (past or present) and how generous are they about claims. Personal story's on what happened and what you got would be helpful!

* I am not looking to commit insurance fraud, I fixed the other issues already out of pocket *

I ask because I want to change from my current plan and have an insurance company that will atleast pay to fix the issues on a not at fault accident. I have Arbella insurance co currently.

Thanks!

Liberty Mutual offers a Subaru discount. I pay a little over 700 a year for very, very good coverage. Most people would consider what I have unnecessary, but it's honestly not much more expensive than the cheap, bare minimum policies.

Also helps that I have over 6 years of no tickets/at fault accidents. Probably cheaper because it's a Forester too.

My driving record isn't as clean, but I have to have full coverage due to my financing. But I've heard good things about liberty. Thanks man!

I have Liberty Mutual, and I pay about 1100 a year to insure both my cars. The Subaru discount is nice. I have a very good record though, which I'm sure accounts for my low premium. I have good coverage too.

Look up my screen name and "independent agent". I've typed it way too many times.

Sounds like you had an adjuster come to you and put together an estimate? They will always lowball, they only do a visual inspection and are aiming to write you a small check and close the claim. Next time you need to take the car to the bodyshop of your choice and have them do the appraisal, they will be very thorough and will then work with your insurance rep to get it sorted.

I would expect this behavior from every company, so changing providers won't help. You also need to calculate if it is worth making a small claim given the impact it will have on your record and future premiums.

Was waiting for this response, yes the adjuster came to my house before I towed it to the shop, he also said he wanted an estimate from the shop to make sure everything is covered. They said 417 was enough if I went to one of their pre approved shops (idk any reputable shop that will do that amount of work for that low.. Do you?) and that's why the estimates are different. It's over with now. But I think I'm switching to liberty.

Was it $417+$500 for your deductible? Regardless, it is your right to go to any shop, and have the repairs done properly.

In my experience I would never use a "preferred shop" again.

Do what Snowphun says. I'm not sure how well changing companies and making a claim right away is going to work for you, or if you can even do so with what sounds like serious damaged to the vehicle.

I use AAA Northern New England for insurance. Actually in a claim process now and it's been going fine. Dropping the car off Monday at the shop of my choice, I know the insurance estimate is lower but my shop said not to worry and that they will handle it.

Nope. My deductible is 500... The repairs in total were estimated at 417.. I would have owed them money lol. But like I said I just want a more reasonable insurance company. The issues (except the cosmetics on the bumper) have been fixed out of pocket.

You need to rethink changing insurance if you think you'll get a better adjuster. I've had adjusters here for when people run into me or my wife (which is about once a year). Most of them have been contractors. Commercial Union, Quincy Mutual were my companies. You might end up changing companies and having the exact same adjuster showing up.

The other thing is that you should not be worrying about the cost of the repair. Find out who their preferred shops are. I had a hard time finding a shop that wasn't on their list. I get everything done at the Foreign Motors West body shop in Ashland. Since they do plenty of Mercedes, BMW and Rolls Royce, I figure they have some clue. I drop it off. Estimate might be $1200. By the time they find hidden dammage or can't find a part used and have to buy it new, it's $3200. I pay my deductable and they work with the insurance company. I had them bring in a PDR guy to do some dents in the door of my wife's outback last time we were in. Worked great and I was quite happy with the work.

In case you didn't look my recommendation up.....look into an independent agent. Like 85% of all drivers in Massachusetts use....and they are not tied to one company, so when one company gobbles another and becomes ********, they warn you and find a better company faster than you would ever know that the problem existed. I have no connection except for being happy with my independent agent.

I'm not suggesting the poster tries this, but calling it fraud is a bit of a leap. I've changed ins. companies, have 3 vehicles (a '91, a '04, and an '09) and not once have they asked to inspect the vehicles or for pictures. Just mileage.

So as far as I'm concerned its not fraud, it's not like he/she took a check already from one company and is making another claim for the same damage with another.

Every time I've insured a car they've wanted a pre-insurance inspection.

I'm in NH, maybe MA is different. When I was in MA the car was new and I never changed providers until I moved to NH.

I was only required to do preinspection on my first few cars when I was new with the provider. Now they don't ask.
