Default What do you think the STI will be called if it comes here?

I been doing some research into why all this hush hush about the STI coming to the USA. We all know it is not an issue with crash testing, making the motor give out less power, making it LHD, making it cheaper (people would pay what they want...because we all know it is going to be reasonable for what is going to come over).

I came to a semi conclusion that is basically coems down to marketing and copyright. Yes copyright. We all know some motorbike tuner usues the regestered name STI and well if subaru would bring there STI over, they would be forced to change the name, because the copyright would crossover to automotive and the STI would be violating that guys regester. So basically IMO, I have a feeling Subaru is looking for loopholes in the copyright, trying to outbuy the guy, or will change the name of the car to get here. (copyrights are good for 10 years at a time[pending the type] and original owner has first right to renew and has 2 month leway before court)

I am thinking Subaru is looking at new names, trying to figgure out how to market it and or is trying to buy this guy out.

what do you think they would call the STI in the USA if they end up not being able to trademark the STI name for there car.

I was thinking;
Impreza WRX GT (mullit style)
Impreza WRX type R (rice style)
Impreza WRX Limited (legacy style)
Impreza WRX R/T-10 (viper style)
Impreza WRX SPT (trademark style)

Ah, I don't know...I was bored today.

Are you sure you didn't cognitively combine that left-hand page where they talk about the S202 (not coming to the states) with the page on the right, talking about the Evo VIII (coming to the states)?

I think they'll call it the STi.

There is another company called STI that makes industrial safety equipment. I don't think that will stop Subaru from using the STi name though.

Safety equiptment for the auto industry? IIRC the law basically says, if you use the same name and your in the same industry, who ever owns trademark has the right to tell you to switch names.

Actually I think that the name "WRX STI" is good and won't cause a problem with any other registered mark. Besides Subaru has been using the "STI" for a while and I believe they have a registered trademark on "STI" which would allow them to use the name

there was a thread in news and rumors a while back, said that STI was owned by shumano, the bike shifter company, and that fuji had recived the rights to use the STI initials in america just this summer.

Not really the same industry. STI makes parts for use on machines. Machines for auto industry and all other sorts of manufacturing. I've used their light curtains before.

It is just an edition of a car... I don't remember hearing that the ACR company went after Chrysler for a copywrite infringement with ACR neon. But then again, I could be wrong... Maybe there was huge (secret) scandal in the 80's (which absolutely no one knew about, hence the secret part) that forced Ford to change Special Vehical Operations to Special Vehical Team...

The STI will come as an STI.

Cool STI vs. STi

Ok, to clarify STI (Scientific Technologies Inc) Makes industrial Safety for Automation such as Light Curtains, Safety mats, and other safety related items.
STi is the monaker of some sweet parts, upgrades and a car that kicks butt, I dont think that there would be an issue, seeing that I work for one of the 2 companies that rep's STI Industrial safety products in MI.

JM

Let it be the WRX STi or vice versa :-) at any rate, I WANT ONE! but cant afford it :-)
