She told him. I guess I've never had problems in philly cause I'm usually wearing orange but the fan base is just better there. It feels like they are a true hockey town. I remember going to caps games when I was younger and just being disappointed. Sure they have changed some but I don't think I'll see DC as a hockey town ever its just the territory they are in. I'd rather drive the hour north to watch real hockey. If they ever had a hockey team in Baltimore I would support them 100% but that's not happening anytime soon especially if they had to play at that horrible place called first mariner arena.

I used to go to Skipjacks games at 1st Mariner (it was just called the Baltimore Arena then), and it wasn't all that bad for what it was. The ice now, the few times they lay it down, is just awful though. It's like whoever is in charge of it doesn't care. There was concrete showing through at the Baltimore Classic in 2011! Inexcusable, and the fact that the NHL was going to allow a second preseason game there last year (September 2012) is just as bad. That's at least one good thing about the lockout, that they didn't have to play that game.

And I wasn't saying that all fans from opposing fan bases are bad. It just seems the worst of the worst come out of the woodwork for Verizon Center games. I've heard the tickets are way cheaper (especially in the upper tier) than other arenas, and maybe that's part of it. I've always had fun at the old Spectrum and now Wells Fargo Center. Heck, Pat thought we were going to get killed when I dragged him up there for the first time, and after the game, the people around us were all like, "For Caps fans, you're pretty cool." We trash talked with them during the game, we weren't jackasses when the Caps scored (we stood up and cheered, and then sat back down before the puck was back in play and didn't get in anyone's faces). And the opposing team fans that don't annoy be are typically like that too. The last Rangers game, the people sitting next to me were scowling just as much at the drunk NY fans behind us as I was.

When I had 20 some seats at Nationwide Arena for New Year's Even 2011, I brought a mix of Caps and Blue Jackets fans with me. We had a great time (Caps came back from 2-0 to win 4-2), going to R Bar afterwards too. No drama there.

Probably the biggest thing is the alcohol. Too many people get stupid and belligerent when drunk, and I guess a lot of the out of town fans aren't driving home, so they can -- and whole-heartedly do -- get completely messed up.

I hate the steelers more than I like the ravens, no shame in admitting it. The whole ring thing is rediculous, the steelers have one superbowl in the past 30 YEARS. If my math is right the ravens have 2 in about half that time.

But I was speaking on pittsburgh in general, every time I've been there it just seems like a bunch of rednecks figured out how to erect some tall buildings, it felt like I went back 10 years in time when I got into pittsburgh, but hey, maybe it's just because I already knew I was going to dislike everyone I met there because of their preference in sports teams

Not to fear, I was back in the baltimore area early enough to see the tail end of the orioles putting up double digits on the pirates that night. Felt all warm and fuzzy inside again as if everything was right in the world

EDIT: and as I type this I'm watching the yankees get blown out, making errors and looking like a 10-12 team. Feelsgoodman.jpg

math is steelers have 6 and ravens 2. to include a bunch of beatdowns of the ravens on the way there. heard this from many other team's fans over the years...steeler h8ters cause they're good. and head to head pirates beat O's x2 world series.

Pittsburgh is a friendly town and yes there are rednecks in all corners of the globe. I lived in Balimer during honorable donald schafer days and I liked it. Wife has family from there so we visit often.

I don't understand what the relevance of any football discussion or "rings" is to this thread, who go start a football meathead thread if you want.

Did you miss the arguments about visors, half-visors and so on when Marc Staal almost lost an eye earlier this year? Or is your head still stuffed so far up your Pittsburgh-loving ass that you missed that accident? Oh yeah, that's because it wasn't worth posting about here. There's a reason I avoid this thread, as much as I love hockey, and it's people like you and your outright stupidity when it comes to team rivalries.

I couldn't care less about your team, to tell the truth. It's a game. I remarked because I will find it interesting if Crosby's injury is the tipping point when it comes to the Department of Player Safety, considering he has been the "face of the NHL" for a while (though not as much since he was out with the concussion). Having seen horrific face injuries due to sticks and pucks previously, I'm surprised it hasn't been mandated already. I'm completely sure you and your Pittsburgh loving sycophants remember Chris Clark's injury. What? No? In case you've forgotten, he took a puck to the mouth, shattered his palatine bone and lost two teeth. He missed two games, returned with lower face protection, but still no true visor.

Where is your indignation over there being no mandate for kevlar socks? What, you missed Erik Karlsson's injury earlier this year? Joe Corvo's injury two years ago? Or maybe you did see ex-Penguin Max Talbot go down in a heap last night?

Where is your indignation over there being no mandate for kevlar neck protection? Who can forget Richard Zednik's gruesome near-death experience?

And what's the deal with the NFL surpassing the NHL when it comes to concussion research and assessment?

Seriously dude. Next time, pull your foot out of your mouth before you decide to call me out for being a Capitals fan and to insinuate that I don't know the game. Either that, or grow some thicker skin. I know plenty of Pens fans who put your ignorance to shame. In lieu of both of those, .
See, this is what I'm talking about, Pittsburgh fans don't have a "Caps v. pens" mentality, this is something purely fabricated in the Washington area, and it's more of a recent thing, so I assume it's a bunch of the more recent fans, but it's just not something celebrated in Pittsburgh.

What changes has Player Safety made since Crosby got hurt? You are making speculative claims, as best as I can tell, that, other people get hurt, nothing changes, and then Crosby gets hurt, and things change. That's fine, just continue to consider me ignorant and educate me on what changes are taking place.

In the end, I still don't see why improving player safety is a bad thing, no matter what the catalyst for it may be. I hate when I buy tickets and an opposing teams' star player(s) don't play. I want to see 2 teams, playing at the top of their abilities fight it out for 2 points.

someone said to bull doze entire city of Pittsburgh...happened to be a person from balimer...happened to dislike steelers. Ergo rings and world series and relevant.

you do have a point stick to nhl...but this is the internet where silliness has a home.

Go Pens.

Good luck to the Caps, they have been truly impressive in the last 1/3rd of the season. It seems like you'll need it against the Rangers.

Let's go PENS!

I'd like to see a Caps/Pens ECF, the Pens have a solid team and with the Capitals clicking it'd definitely be a great matchup

lots of water over the dam.

Islanders took it to us, except in game 1 and 5. Pens doing well in 1st game of the semis.

Geno stepping up. Sid almost back to mid-season form, after missing 15 games and a broken jaw. Good move to sit Flower for a while.

back to the 3rd period.

Pens played world class offense...and playoff defense last night. Power play came back and at least even on shorthanded goals. Final 7-3. Predict Pens advance to semi's Friday.
