^^ OK, I'll bite. Why are you so curious about this filter?

^^ Thanks for the info. I'm not currently in the market for filters myself (I have a stash of 6 Rokis on the shelf right now). I just thought others might like to take advantage of the sale, if it's a good product.

Well call me the dead cat 'cause the curiosity was killing me. Its just one of those things where you see something, research it, can't find anything, then it stays on your mind.
Motorcraft has good filters, most if not all are made by Purolator. The part number is FL-822.

Have you tried the wix or purolator cross reference on their respective websites?

^ Didn't look at Wix until a few minutes ago.
Purolator list a filter that's not available yet (PL14615) and Wix's website don't even list the correct Impreza submodels for 2012 but it did show the 2.0 FB engine. I don't like those short filters though.

What is it you're trying to accomplish here? You said you couldn't find a cross reference so I pointed you to one....what exactly are you wanting to know?

I think he is trying to get a filter with more capacity or filtering material. I will probably do that when my rokis are gone.

On my Buick I have ran the filter for a Chevy 4.3 the entire time I have had it because it holds twice the capacity

I guess having a filter with more capacity would be important if you were using an extremely extended oil change interval (for example, if you were running Amsoil Signature Series with a 15k mile OCI).

But do you think more capacity than a filter the size of the Roki is important if you have an OCI of 7.5k miles or less?

Be better off using any of the synthetic media oil filters...they always hold more dirt and contaminates than their paper counterparts. Purolator has a nice one too for about $10...I'm still leaning towards that fram ultra I talked about before though for $9 and in stock at Walmart.

I just wanted to know what Motorcraft filter was installed on that used Impreza (post# 100). My bad for leaving out the part about calling the dealership and asking for the part number to that filter. The salesman told me it was FL-822. Sorry about the mix up.

Other than that, I'm good.

I was looking at some cut open pictures of the Fram Ultra XG7317 and that's a very good looking filter. That synthetic media is thick. Compared to paper, it looks a lot more durable. I have 3 Roki 160's left and when they are gone, I'll be using either P1 or this Fram Ultra. BTW, I do like taller filters for the little extra height in filter material.

Can you please direct us to those pictures?

Check this out. This pricing matches what I pay on eBay for a 6-pack of the Roki filters:

Here's the XG7317 cut open: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=2861963

I saw those Fram Ultra's on eBay too last night. I was thinking the same thing, maybe someone is selling them in bulk. $6.99 ea, prettty good for a synthetic media filter.

I'd love to see a Used Oil Analysis from someone who had the Fram Ultra installed, especially after 10k+ miles on the filter....

For sure I know my roki is good for 8200 miles, probably even 10k

Yes, your used oil analysis proved that.

Right now I'm planning a 6500 mile OCI using Amsoil OE. What I'm wondering is if this Fram synthetic filter would be good for two OCIs (13k miles). If so, that would be a very cost effective filter to use. I don't think I would push the Roki filter to 13k miles.

You can certainly do what you like, but I would use used toilet paper before I put a Fram oil filter in any of my vehicles! A few years ago, someone cut open several filters that fit my bikes. The Fram was hands down the cheapest made filter of them all. If you spread out the filter media, it had the least, amongst other short cuts. Sometimes you do get what you pay for. But, it is your car and your money.

Reviews of this Fram Ultra filter seem to be much more positive than with other Fram filter models. This filter might be an exception to the Fram rule.

You've obviously not seen the filter we're talking about or have done any research of your own. You're just spewing out nonsense based on what you saw a few years ago that "someone" else did the research on. If you've seen or read anything about these filters you'd know your statement is garbage!

I would pay money to see you use used toilet paper on your car! But like you said, it is your car and your money!

I agree with Guzzi. There are just too many Fram horror stories. I'm not sending any money to a company that cuts corners on a critical component, in any product line. If I have to buy a company's premium product to get something barely acceptable, I'm dealing with the wrong company.

There are too many reasonably priced filters from reputable brands with proven track records to bother with the orange can.

On another note, I'm not sure what the advantage of synthetic media is.

Purolator has three versions of the 14459:

L14459 - Regular (white can)
PL14459 - PureOne (yellow can)
PSL14459 - Synthetic (blue can)

The PL outperforms the other two in efficiency.

Who's talking about the orange can? Why was it even brought up? And I would hardly call Fram's ultra line of filters "barely acceptable." If you actually read about them and did the research you'd find out that they are comparable to royal purple, Mobil 1, amsoil, and even purolator as far as quality and performance, yet cost less than all of those!

Please confirm for all of us that the Purolator 14459 filters are correct for our Imprezas. For some reason, Amazon says this filter is not compatible (but I've had problems with Amazon's compatibility database in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me that the 14459 is in fact the correct filter for us).

Also, I'm surprised that the Synthetic model isn't the most efficient. Where did you get that information?

^Wow! I looked at the Purolator website and the pureONE is 99.9% efficient and the synthetic is 99%. We have a winner!
