Default Dodge Presents Faintly Sportier Dart GT with Tuned Chassis and 184hp Turbo'd 2.4L Eng

Carscoop: http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2013/01...r-dart-gt.html

Quote:
Dodge couldn't wait until next week's Detroit auto show to tell us about the latest addition to its Dart range, the sportier GT model that sits atop the Limited edition featuring the brand's 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 four-cylinder engine delivering 184 ponies and 174 lb.-ft. of torque to the front wheels.
When the Chrysler Group announced pricing for the Dart last April, it made word of an identically-equipped R/T version fitted with the same 184hp engine priced at $22,495 (excluding handling and delivery) that would become available in the third quarter of the year.

Besides being absent from Dodge's official catalog and website, the company added to the confusion today stating in the GT's release, "Dodge continues to investigate a high-performance R/T model."

Back to the GT, along with the 184hp engine that's connected to a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed auto, the new Dart model gains a sport suspension with frequency-sensing damping shocks, 18-inch aluminum wheels and certain styling features such as the sports front grille with black accents, black projector headlamp bezels and dual exhaust tips.

Inside, the Dart GT gets Nappa perforated leather seats in Black with Ruby Red stitching or two-tone Black/Ruby Red, along with plenty of standard features including heated steering wheel and seats, dual zone automatic temperature control, power heated mirrors, an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen for the infotainment system and ParkView rear backup camera.

A 7-inch TFT (Thin Film Transistor) reconfigurable instrument cluster display, ambient LED interior lighting and automatic headlamps are also included.

The new 2013 Dodge Dart GT will go on sale in the U.S. in the second quarter of the year with a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $20,995 (excluding destination).

184 hp from a 2.4L TURBO ENGINE? ****ing wake up dodge, this is why you're non-competitive in the small car market.

Edit: just checked to make sure. The ford 2.3L turbo fox body engine made 205hp in 1985.

2.4l that doesn't even make 200hp? and probably only about 150 to the wheels. Really isn't it 2013 can't they get a few more ponies? The mazdaspeed3 looks like a much better alternative than this.

I get what you guys are saying but they are coming out with a SRT version, Which will make the power you'd expect. This is probably a filler model till then.

I've seen normally aspirated motors make more hp per liter than this.

Chinsing on a tune so a model with the same engine looks better on paper is a crap way to sell the model. They could have offered a 2.0L turbo with the same specs and probably better mpg for the rt & gt. 26 city & 36 hw is utter garbage for a car of this market in this day and age, ESPECIALLY with that power.

It's not turbo. The headline is wrong.

(edit) details on this engine, it's got a very fancy variable valvetrain: http://media.chrysler.com/newsrelease.do?id=11858

That makes more sense, after reading the article closer, I guess it isn't truly mentioned anywhere that the engine is in fact turbo'd. As long as the MPG stays about what the 2.0 is at, then it would be much more respectable considering an N/A sporty sedan ala mazda 3.

The problem is this motor is a dud in every other Dodge product. I'd stick with the smaller turbo motor with a stick that will give similar performance with better MPG and a more euro feel.

Currently renting a ~base model Dart. The thing has only 1300 miles on it, but the two piece dashboard, which is soft to touch, has a constant rattle that has continued since I pulled out of the lot. It also has a very unpleasant resonant vibration just around 65MPH that gets in through the steering column and the go pedal. And the steering wheel creaks from time to time.

On the other hand, the steering and chassis are quite decent, and the drivetrain isn't as bad as I expected based on reviews. The base engine sounds better than most in the segment, and the trans actually lets you redline it when you mash the throttle.

I guess it really is an Italian car.

Default Did an Insider Leak the New 2014 Dodge Dart SRT4?

Carscoop: http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2013/01...odge-dart.html

Quote:
A couple of hours ago, a number of sites reported about an allegedly leaked teaser sketch of the 2014 Dodge Dart SRT4, presumably sourced from a site named Ontariostreetcar.
Since the source matters when it comes to these kinds of stories, we took a closer look at Ontariostreetcar. There we found a number of unaccredited images and renderings including one of our own, the 2014 Chevy SS, so it quickly became evident that this website wasn't the source.

To make a long story short, we traced back the image to the 'Neon Enthusiasts' forums and one of its members named "Neon GTS". As it turns out, it's a screen shot of a PDF (or PowerPoint) file from a computer. The author's posting is even more interesting:

"Looks like this could be the final design, sounds like march or april will be production date if all goes to plan, Also sounds like the jeeps in August will go to another plant to be produced and 2 more models to replace them for the 2014 model year. Company I work for is gearing up for the change over and possible increase in production in the next couple months."

From the looks of it, we'd say the sketch could very well be legit, especially since the file is signed by Tim Doyle, who happens to be the lead exterior designer of the new 2013 Dodge Dart. If that's the case, then "Neon GTS's" decision to publish the sketch online doesn't seem like a very wise move…

For the right price I'd be all over a Chrysler 300 SRT-8. Hell, even the 300C and 300S are pretty damn cool.

I like the look of the Dart. The offerings for the price aren't bad. It does remind my a bit of the 2000 Mercury Cougar, of which I was not a fan. It looks like Dodge is coming around. I'm hoping they come out with a new Dakota with a diesel option and better style.
