Default Mechanic recommendation in Brooklyn/NYC area?

Posted this in the newbie forum first as I was unable to create threads here as a new member. But I've got a few posts now so hopefully someone here can help me out.

Just picked up a saab 9-2x a month w/ 130K miles on it for a great price. And now I know why - two front CV boots are leaking, and the head gaskets are leaking. Mechanic who did the pre-purchase inspection must've been drinking on the job, because I specifically asked him to check the head gaskets. Got a quote from from a jersey Subaru dealer - $580 for the boots and $2,950 for the head gaskets (including timing belt).

Obviously these prices are a rip off, so I joined the site to see if you guys could recommend a trustworthy mechanic in the NYC/brooklyn area. I need a new posts before creating a thread in the east coast board so I figured I'd start here.

I got a few recommendations already - AZP, M.R. Performance, and Performance Auto Parts, but they're all just far enough away from Brooklyn that it would be a real hassle to leave the car there.

Kings motor works. 6209 62nd st in Brooklyn NY. Ask for loon, tell him Joe with the Subaru sent you. He should know me even if you don't bring up the subaru. He regularly gets project cars to work on. Tons of experience from regular work to track ready race cars. Although he might not look the part since he's so humble . just make sure you ask HIM for the price and not anyone else.

Thanks Joe! This is just the kind of personal recommendation I was looking for. I'll let you know how it works out.

Another option is 'One Stop Transmission' in Ridgewood by the M-line (near Brooklyn/Queens border).

Co-owned by my friend's Darek and Marek. They do mainly MT/AT builds, rebuilds and servicing but are also top-notch mechanics. And NOT pricey at all.

Open M-Sat 8-6/7PM

Tell them Mike sent you.
