Default The very one thing that surprised you with your 08+ STI?

Ordered my STi 12/31/12 and I'm killing time. I want to know what one thing that really surprised you with your 08+ STi/WRX right when you started looking into the finer details. It can be as simple or complex, good or bad. Preferably good and something I didn't know about

Let's hear it.

Really? What were you coming from? Luckily I have a AP/Cobb SF waiting in a box to satisfy that a little bit for when I come to realization with this...

How loud the transmission was compared to the WRX. The stero wasn't as bad as I had imagined

I have been very antsy to hear what the stereo sounds like so this kinda soothed that. I mainly listen to Sports Radio but I also do like to jam out here and there.

Describe "how loud the transmission is" to me. Anything particular?

I spent extra money to get the Subaru Navigation. I am happy with the functionality of the unit, but the sound is literally painful to listen to. Music sounds awful and I usually don't ever turn on my stereo. I used to love listening to music too

The head unit itself isn't a problem. It is underpowered, but if you crank it up it provides enough sound to satisfy most people. Problem is the insulation, or lack thereof, in the doors causes them to rattle and buzz like a chainsaw. Certain frequencies are downright awful. There are threads about how to fix the buzzing and it doesn't take a full blown dynamat install to get rid of most of it.

I don't know what you're coming from, but if it's something like what I had, ('97 Accord) you'll really enjoy the mid-range torque, especially after a tune. Makes driving so much more fun and passing a breeze.

I've had a couple cars in my day.

04 GTI 1.8T > 08 Mazdaspeed 3 > 2011 Genesis Coupe Track > STi

The body roll. I expected a more tight suspension base on all the handling hype.

Yeah no the head unit is ENTIRELY the problem. I replaced my head unit and with no other changes it sounded worlds better. Then I added an underseat sub and it's pretty great now

I will be equipped with the factory navi, what could I do to work off that to make the sound better?

My 05 WRX stage 2 had more power. You need the Cobb for the 08's, they lack in power more than I expected. I was extremely let down with the stock power. 09+ are better out of the box.

Well it might be possible to add an amp to boost power to the speakers, others can comment that are more knowledgeable. I wouldn't be surprised if the only option is to replace the head unit.

it drives me nucking futz. my 88 911 doesnt even do that. nor did my crap ass hyundai sonata...ever.

i have deccided that i have 3 options:

1.) turn up the music
2.) drive faster or keep the engine at an RPM where the exhaust is louder than the panels
3.) live with it until i decide to order a crapload of dynamat and do the whole car

i am rotating the options depending on the situation.

While you're paying 30K+ for a performance oriented car, you have to realize the soul base of the vehicle is that of an economy car. Tie that with mass production by semi skilled labor, you're going to have squeaks, rattles, and all things in between from time to time.
